On the morning of May 27, at Vinh Long Provincial Martyrs' Cemetery (Tan Ngai ward), the 515 Steering Committee of Military Region 9 and the 515 Steering Committee of Vinh Long province conducted the collection of 10 biological samples of martyrs' remains (HCLS) from martyrs' graves that have not been identified for DNA testing.
Colonel Nguyen Thuc Linh, Deputy Head of the Political Department of the Military Region, Standing Deputy Head of the Steering Committee 515 of the Military Region, and leaders of the Steering Committee 515 of Vinh Long province attended and monitored the sampling process.
According to the plan, to implement the Campaign, Vinh Long province will take 20,726 samples of HCLS that are unknown information and partly known information at 33 martyrs' cemeteries in the province to serve DNA testing to identify HCLS. This is a pilot unit, doing it first to draw experience in Military Region 9.
Currently, Military Region 9 has 116 martyrs' cemeteries with more than 155,971 graves, including 83 collective graves. Among the total number of martyrs' graves, there are 47,316 graves without information; the total number of graves to be sampled in the Campaign (including graves without information and graves with partial information is 92,573 graves). This is a very large workload, requiring close coordination between the Army, police, health, science and local authorities forces.
In addition to taking HCLS biological samples, this work also aims to build, complete and put into operation the gene database of relatives of martyrs whose information has not been identified to serve the comparison and identification of HCLS.
This is an activity within the campaign "500 days and nights to promote the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs' remains", meeting the requirements of gratitude work and policies for people with meritorious services to the revolution.
