A tropical depression near the East Sea has strengthened into a storm and is forecast to continue to strengthen fiercely in the next few days.

According to storm news, the latest low pressure from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), a low pressure near the East Sea has strengthened into a storm.

As of the evening of July 1st, the center of the storm, coded 09W, was about 1,902 km southeast of Tinian Island. In the past 6 hours, the storm has moved in a Northwest direction at a speed of about 17 km/h. The maximum high wave near the center of the storm reached about 4.6 m.

Forecast for the next 12-24 hours, storm 09W will continue to move mainly in the Northwest direction under the impact of a subtropical high pressure located in the Northeast.

After about 24 hours, another subtropical high pressure in the Northwest will expand to the East and gradually dominate the storm's path. When switching to being affected by this system, the storm will change direction to move west-northwest and maintain this trajectory for most of the forecast time.

In terms of intensity, storm 09W is forecast to gradually strengthen in the next 24 hours when its structure is completed. From the next 24-60 hours, the storm is likely to intensify very quickly and reach the level of a typhoon. After the 60-hour mark, the intensity will continue to increase but at a slower rate than before stabilizing around the 4-5th day of the forecast.

In the final stage, the storm is forecast to encounter dry air mass in the West and North. However, forecast models show that at that time, storm 09W is likely to have developed into a strong storm. At the same time, the storm is forecast to have a very wide wind area, which can cause strong winds and danger to the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) and Guam when moving through the area south of Tinian Island.

Because it is still far from the mainland, the storm only causes thunderstorms at sea and small islands around the area, and has not affected the mainland Philippines.

However, people and tourists planning to travel to the Philippines during this time should still closely monitor the weather forecast. Check your flight schedule and follow local instructions to ensure safety throughout the journey.
