Typhoon Nakri is about to become a typhoon, strong winds may overturn vehicles

Typhoon Nakri is moving east-northeast at a speed of about 31 km/h off the coast of Japan. The sea was rough, with the highest waves recorded at up to 7.9 m.

According to the latest storm information from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), Typhoon Nakri is about 476 km southeast of Iwakuni (Japan).

At 6:00 a.m. on October 12, near the center of the storm, the sustained wind speed reached 90 km/h, gusting up to 126 km/h.

The storm maintained the strongest winds near the center of about 110km/h in the past 6 hours.

Typhoon Nakri is forecast to continue moving northeast. The storm is entering a slight re-strengthening phase as it passes through warm waters (28 - 29°C) and is in favorable conditions.

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) forecasts Typhoon Nakri to approach the Izu Islands (in Tokyo) on Monday, October 13, just days after the area was heavily affected by Typhoon Halong.

Typhoon Nakri is expected to continue to strengthen as it moves eastward, causing strong winds in the southern part of Kyushu for many hours. Heavy rain is possible in the southern part of Tohoku.

Nakri is forecast to approach the Izu Islands from dawn to nearly noon on Monday, with sustained winds of about 108 km/h near the center, gusting up to 162 km/h - enough to overthrow the trucks in circulation. The waves will also be very intense, possibly up to 9 m high.

After about 2 days, Typhoon Nakri will start to gradually decrease in intensity and become a tropical depression, according to JWTC.

According to the forecast, Nakri will reach maximum intensity as a typhoon, the wind speed near the center of the storm will increase to about 140 km/h within the next 24 - 36 hours.

The storm peaked when it was off the southern coast of Japan and did not make landfall.

The risk of natural disasters in the Izu archipelago is now high, as heavy rains and strong winds from Typhoon Halong last week have weakened the soil and affected many structures.

The JMA recommends that people and tourists should be especially vigilant against landslides and strong gusts of wind.

Okinawa has passed the time of being most affected by the storm, but it is still advisable to pay attention to high waves and strong winds in the short term.

Tourists in southern coastal areas of Japan such as Hamamatsu, Shizouka, Fuji, Toyko, Chiba, Kamogawa... should prepare for bad weather on Monday morning, October 13, including showers and thunderstorms.

Check flight schedules, ships and sea tours, and monitor official weather reports to promptly adjust travel plans.
