Weather in Ho Chi Minh City with dense thunderstorms accompanied by thunder and lightning in the afternoon of March 13.
At about 4:30 pm, rain began to fall in many areas and quickly spread. The amount of rain was quite heavy, lasting for a short time, surprising many people and tourists. The rain is likened to "golden rain" in the middle of the dry season when it helps to soothe the rising heat in the city.
According to weather forecast information from the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, satellite cloud images, weather radar and lightning positioning systems show that convective clouds are developing strongly in the Ho Chi Minh City area, causing showers with thunderstorms and lightning in many places.
In the next 3 hours, convective clouds will continue to expand and cause rain in areas such as Ben Thanh, Cho Quan, Binh Trung, Vinh Tan, along with Binh Chanh, Binh Hung, Binh Khanh and Nha Be communes, then it is likely to spread to neighboring areas.
Common rainfall is from 5 - 20mm, in some places over 20mm. The meteorological agency also warns that thunderstorms, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind may appear during thunderstorms.
Meteorological experts believe that this is an unseasonal rain that was predicted in advance. The main reason is the wind convergence configuration in the area causing convective clouds to develop, creating thunderstorms in the late afternoon.
The weather in the South is in the peak dry season, so unseasonal rains only appear locally and are short-term, mainly helping to temporarily reduce temperatures. The Southwest monsoon is still not active, so the hot and dry trend will still prevail in the coming weeks.
Ho Chi Minh City weather forecast shows that hot weather tends to increase from the end of this week. The highest temperature is commonly around 33 - 34 degrees C and may increase to 35 - 36 degrees C at the beginning of next week. Some areas such as Thu Duc, Go Vap, Tan Binh, Binh Tan and Cu Chi are likely to record higher temperatures.
The reason is that the cold air in the North is weakening, while the hot low pressure area in the West is gradually becoming stronger and expanding to the East, affecting the Southern region. This trend is expected to be clearer from about 17-18. 3.
According to meteorological forecasts, the period from the end of March to the beginning of April will be a clear dry season in the South. The Southeast region, including Ho Chi Minh City, is forecast to be the area with the most hot sunshine with temperatures possibly reaching 37 - 38 degrees Celsius. Some neighboring areas such as Bien Hoa (Dong Nai) may even exceed the threshold of 38 degrees Celsius.
