According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on May 18, many areas in the North, Central and Southern regions experienced showers and localized thunderstorms.

Rainfall from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM recorded many places exceeding 70mm such as Cao Bo (Tuyen Quang) 72.4mm, Khe Mo Rang forest ranger station (Hue City) 79.6mm, Savin Forest Management Board (Khanh Hoa) 90.2mm. Notably, Krong No area (Dak Lak) recorded rainfall up to 227mm.
Forecast from the evening of May 18 to May 19, the Northeast region, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An will have rain, moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms with common rainfall from 20-40mm, locally very heavy rain over 100mm.
The Northwest region, from Ha Tinh to Lam Dong and the South has scattered showers and thunderstorms, common rainfall from 10-30mm, locally over 80mm. Rain mainly concentrated in the late afternoon and night.
From the night of May 19 to May 21, the Northern region, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An entered a widespread heavy rain phase with common rainfall from 60-120mm, locally over 250mm. The meteorological agency warns of the risk of heavy rain, over 100mm in 3 hours.
In thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.
Prolonged heavy rain may cause flooding in low-lying areas and urban areas, while increasing the risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams and landslides in hilly areas.
People and tourists are advised to closely monitor weather forecasts and limit travel during heavy rains. Outdoor tourism, trekking or camping activities should proactively adjust their schedules to ensure safety.
