According to the new weather forecast from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on August 18, the center of the tropical depression was at about 19.8 degrees North latitude - 107.6 degrees East longitude, located in the northern area of the Gulf of Tonkin, about 140km south-southeast of the coast of Quang Ninh - Hai Phong provinces.
The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression will reach level 6-7 (39-61km/h), gusting to level 9. The tropical depression is forecast to move north-northeast at a speed of about 15km/h.
In the next 24 hours, the tropical depression will move north-northeast at a speed of 10-15km/h and gradually weaken. At 7:00 p.m. on August 19, the center of the tropical depression was at about 23.0 degrees North latitude - 107.2 degrees East longitude, in the area of Guangxi province (China). Wind intensity below level 6.
The danger zone is identified as the area north of latitude 18.5 degrees North and west of longitude 109.0 degrees East.
The natural disaster risk level is assessed at level 3, in which the affected area is the Gulf of Tonkin (including the special areas of Bach Long Vi, Cat Hai, Co To and Van Don).
At sea, the Gulf of Tonkin (including Bach Long Vi, Cat Hai, Co To and Van Don) will have thunderstorms with strong winds of level 6-7, gusts of level 9, waves from 2.0-3.5m high, rough seas. Ship operating in the danger zone are at risk of being affected by thunderstorms, whirlwinds, strong winds and large waves.
On land, coastal areas of Quang Ninh and Hai Phong have strong winds of level 6, gusting to level 8.
From the evening of August 18 to the night of August 19, the Northeast and Thanh Hoa regions will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, with common rainfall of 50-120mm, locally over 250mm. In the evening and night of August 18, Nghe An will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, with common rainfall of 20-40mm, locally over 80mm.
People and tourists should be on guard during thunderstorms with the possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. Prevent the risk of flash floods, landslides, and land subsidence on steep slopes and small streams in Quang Ninh, Quang Ngai, etc.
