Strong cold air arrives, forecast for heavy cold rain in provinces and cities

Strong cold air causes severe cold, severe cold and widespread rain in the northern and central provinces.

From January 21st, cold air will strengthen more strongly, causing the North and North Central regions to turn cold. From the night of January 21st to January 23rd, the North will be generally severely cold, with severe cold in mountainous areas, especially in high mountainous areas, the temperature is likely to drop below 6 degrees Celsius, with the risk of frost.

The lowest temperature in this cold air wave in the North is commonly from 11 - 14 degrees C, mountainous areas 8 - 11 degrees C, high mountainous areas below 6 degrees C. North Central region fluctuates from 13 - 16 degrees C.

Forecast of cold rain due to cold air

Due to the impact of cold air, from the evening of January 2nd to January 22nd, Hanoi and many Northern regions will have rain, showers, cold weather from January 21st, severe cold from the night of January 21st to January 23rd, the lowest temperature is 12 - 14 degrees C.

Weather forecast for the Central region, from the night of January 2, cold air continues to cause showers and thunderstorms. By January 23, the area from Ha Tinh to Da Nang and the eastern provinces from Quang Ngai to Gia Lai are likely to experience moderate to heavy rain, posing a risk of localized flooding and landslides in mountainous areas.

Faced with the complicated developments of cold air, on January 19, the National Steering Committee for Civil Defense issued a document requesting 32 provinces and cities to implement response measures.

In which, 18 northern provinces and cities along with Thanh Hoa and Nghe An are required to closely monitor weather forecasts, proactively prevent severe cold, harmful cold and strong winds at sea.

Localities are required to strengthen propaganda and guide people not to use charcoal stoves in closed rooms, ensure health safety, and at the same time proactively take measures to protect livestock, poultry, and crops from the impact of cold and heavy rain.

Strong winds, rough seas due to cold air

Cold air also causes strong northeast winds and big waves in the sea areas. From the evening and night of January 20, the North East Sea (including Hoang Sa special zone) has northeast winds of level 6 - 7, gusts of level 8 - 9, strong sea waves, waves 3-5 m high.

From January 21st, the Gulf of Tonkin will have northeast wind level 6, gusting level 7-8, waves 2-3 m high. The sea area from southern Quang Tri to Khanh Hoa and the middle of the East Sea from the evening of January 21st will have wind level 6, gusting level 7-8, waves 2-5 m high.

From January 22, the sea area from Lam Dong to Ca Mau and the southwest of the East Sea (west of the Truong Sa special zone) will have northeast winds of level 6 - 7, gusts of level 8 - 9, strong sea waves, waves 3-5 m high.

Notes on cold air developments

For tourists who are planning to travel to the North, high mountainous areas or coastal areas in the coming days, they need to closely monitor weather forecasts, prepare warm clothes, and limit travel during cold rain, thick fog or strong sea waves. Tourists should not participate in mountain climbing, high mountain trekking or sea tours when there is a warning of strong winds and big waves, to ensure safety throughout the journey.
