According to the provisions of the 2019 Labor Code, workers in Vietnam are entitled to leave work and receive full salary on holidays and Tet every year. After the 9-day Lunar New Year holiday, workers will continue to have important holidays such as Hung Kings Commemoration Day, Southern Liberation Day, National Unity Day April 30 and International Labor Day May 1.
In 2026, the Hung Kings Commemoration Day (10th day of the 3rd lunar month) falls on Sunday, April 26th of the solar calendar. Due to coinciding with the weekend holiday, workers will have compensatory leave on Monday (April 27th). Thus, including the two weekend days, the Hung Kings Commemoration Day holiday lasts 3 consecutive days, from April 25th to the end of April 27th.
After that, the Southern Liberation and National Reunification Day April 30 and International Labor Day May 2026 will be on Thursday and Friday respectively. For workers with Saturday and Sunday holidays, this holiday will last 4 consecutive days, from April 30 to the end of May 3.
Due to the close gap between the two holidays, workers only go to work for 2 days (April 28 and 29) after the Hung Kings Commemoration holiday before entering the next holiday on April 30 - May 1.

Over the past time, information has appeared on social networks proposing to swap working days to connect these two holidays, helping workers to have 9 consecutive days off.
However, the Department of Employment (Ministry of Home Affairs) affirmed that the holiday schedule is still implemented according to the provisions of the Labor Code and there is no new adjustment plan, so there will be no 9-day holiday as some information spreads.
Regarding the overtime regime during holidays and Tet, the law stipulates that enterprises are only allowed to request employees to work overtime with the employee's consent, except for some special cases as prescribed in Article 108 of the 2019 Labor Code.
Employees working on holidays and Tet are paid at least 300% of their salary, excluding the salary of holidays for those receiving daily wages.
In case of working at night or working overtime at night, employees are also paid at least 30% of the salary according to the salary unit price of a normal working day, along with 20% of the additional salary for the overtime part at night.
With 3-4 days of vacation, destinations near Hanoi suitable for short-day tourism are being chosen by many tourists. Tourists can explore rocky mountain scenery and terraced fields in Ha Giang, roam boats to see mountains and caves in Ninh Binh, or experience indigenous cultural space in Phu Tho, Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang...
The Central region is also a convenient choice for short-day trips thanks to the airport system and the distance between destinations is quite close. Tourists can combine visiting Hoi An ancient town, swimming at Da Nang, Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa) or Quy Nhon (Gia Lai) or exploring nature in Phong Nha - Ke Bang (Quang Tri).
In the Southern region, short sea vacations or ecotourism are often popular during holidays. Tourists from Ho Chi Minh City can choose to relax in Phu Quoc (An Giang Giang), explore the sea and islands in Con Dao or experience the river and water space of the Mekong Delta in Can Tho.
