On the Northwest tourism journey, Thung Khe Pass (also known as Da Trang Pass) is a must-visit stop. Located on National Highway 6, the pass belongs to Muong Bi commune, bordering Mai Chau (Phu Tho), highlighted by the characteristic white color of limestone - the result of the process of cutting mountains to build roads.
Not as dangerous as other famous passes, Thung Khe impresses with soft curves and blurred scenery like a European sky. Many tourists compare this place to a "Northern European hill" or a "white snow hill" in the middle of the tropics.
From the top of the pass, you can take a panoramic view of the entire vast Mai Chau valley, where rolling mountains blend with the faint clouds.
What is special about Thung Khe is the change of weather during the day, bringing a feeling of experiencing all four seasons. The morning is cool like spring, the trees are green. The noon is clear and radiant like summer. The afternoon is chilly and foggy like autumn. The evening is cold and foggy, like winter.
This change creates a wonderful beauty and therefore the majestic rocky mountain scenery and the vast space here are still enough to make the trip memorable.
Along Thung Khe Pass, small leaf stalls of local people bring a rustic but unforgettable culinary experience. In the chilly weather, what could be more interesting than enjoying hot bamboo rice, grilled corn, grilled eggs or fragrant grilled pork in the kitchen smoke.
Not only is it a beautiful road, Thung Khe Pass is also a favorite "virtual living coordinate" for tourists, especially young people and photography enthusiasts. The white scenery of rocks, combined with clouds and mountains, creates impressive pictures.
