Son Nam Memorial House located on the banks of the Bao Dinh canal in Dao Thanh ward, Dong Thap province, was started by Mr. and Mrs. Thuy Hang - his eldest daughter, living in My Tho, former Tien Giang, now Dong Thap - in 2009, one year after he entered eternity.
Son Nam (1926-2008) is a writer with a massive volume of works, estimated at more than 200 works. His creations are not only diverse in genres, such as: short stories, novels, research and editing, but also make many contributions to preserving culture, customs, history, and culture of the ancient Southern land, so he is known as the "Southern Living Dictionary".
Starting from the mindset of a son who loves and respects his father very much and a loyal reader of the Southern cultural house, Ms. Thuy Hang and her husband painstakingly invested in building a project that is both worthy of his great contribution to the national literary scene, but also simple and ordinary like his true way of life and activities.
Overall, the house is designed on a high mound of land, similar to the customs of residents in Miet Thu region - his hometown. The building is designed according to the traditional Southern house architecture with 3 compartments, including: a worship compartment, a compartment displaying works and artifacts of the writer and a compartment displaying research and criticism works written about the writer. Building materials are mainly used from bricks and wood. The garden-designed house with access roads from the yard to the house to the porch is arranged with 82 honeycomb stone pieces shaped like Ca Mau peninsula, both depicting where he buried vegetables, cut the umbilical cord, and showing the writer's lifespan.
Around the memorial area, elaborately invested from miniatures to plants to aim to recreate and preserve the soul of the ancient Southern countryside, including: water coconut trees, star fruit trees, water ponds... In particular, this place arranges people to take care of and warmly welcome and talk to tourists all hours of the day... Therefore, for many years, Son Nam Memorial House has not only been a place for writers from all over the country, but also an interesting destination for tourists. Especially a check-in and photo spot for many couples...
