Meteorological station built at the earliest Indochina
According to information from the People's Committee of Kien An District, Phu Lien Meteorological Station was built in 1902 according to the 19th -century French architecture. The station was built as the earliest in Indochina with the name of the General Department of Astronomy of East France, which went into the history of the world. In 1957, this place was called Phu Lien Global Physics Station.
In 1979, the station changed its name to the Hydrometeorology Station of Phu Lien and is currently the Northeast Meteorological Station. However, the local people are still used to being called astronomical radio.
Phu Lien meteorological station was recognized by the world meteorological organization as a meteorological station over 100 years old in June 2018. This is the first meteorological station in Vietnam to be recognized as a meteorological station over 100 years old.

The project was built in French architecture with a solid stone wall, carved doors with Western-style motifs... In 2017, the Phu Lien Weather radar Station project with 7 floors sponsored by Japan came into operation with many modern equipment.
The station campus has many devices for monitoring activities to get data on temperature, humidity, pressure, rainfall, wind speed, solar radiation measurement. Over many years of operation, Phu Lien meteorological station has promptly forecast dangerous weather phenomena such as storms, tropical depressions, floods ... contributing to mitigating damage caused by natural disasters in the Northeast.
Attractive destination for people and tourists
More than 120 years of existence, Phu Lien meteorological station is not only a scientific research basis but also an attractive tourist destination of Kien An district in particular and Hai Phong city in general.
In the campus of the Meteorological Station, there is Vietnam's astronomical Museum, preserving many valuable memorabilia of the astronomy industry. Located at an altitude of 116 m above sea level, from the meteorological station, visitors enjoy the cool air, watching the urban city of Hai Phong city from above. Every afternoon, this place is a stop for the people, visitors when visiting, strolling the astronomical hill.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Trang (40 years old, living in Cau Giay district, Hanoi) said: "Astronomical hill as well as the meteorological station of the fingertips with me from my childhood years, daily after school to bike to the top of the hill with my friends, playing in the yard of the meteorological station.
Along with the oldest meteorological station in Vietnam, the monuments and spiritual tourist destinations such as temples, Tay Son pagoda, Lien Hoa pagoda, Memorial Memorial Martyrs of Kien An District ... are a worthy place to visit in the hill. Visitors can enjoy peaceful moments, green space in the heart of the city.
