The projects that were started include: Provincial Road DT 9.75 (section from DT 9.73 - Phu Quoc Airport - DT 9.75 - DT 9.973); Cua Can Lake; Technical infrastructure undergrounding project in Duong Dong area; Technical infrastructure undergrounding project in An Thoi area; Technical infrastructure investment project and digital transformation, construction of Phu Quoc City Smart Monitoring and Operation Center; Project to build embankments and level the ground for the construction of the APEC conference center and functional works; An Thoi resettlement area project. The projects launched include Bai Bon Waste Treatment Plant, An Thoi Domestic Solid Waste Treatment Plant; Cua Can Lake Water Plant.

These are all strategic infrastructure projects, not only improving Phu Quoc's capacity in successfully organizing APEC 2027, but also aiming for the long-term, sustainable development goal of the special zone, contributing to affirming An Giang's role on the socio-economic development map of the country.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung said: With the groundbreaking and launching of 10 key infrastructure projects - located in the system of more than 21 key infrastructure projects serving the APEC Conference, which are modern and synchronous infrastructure works, not only meeting the needs of the conference but also contributing to promoting the long-term development of the locality and the country.
Accordingly, the Deputy Prime Minister directed ministries, branches, agencies and units, especially An Giang province, to focus the most, strive to complete projects and works 3-6 months ahead of schedule, ensure the best quality, create the most beautiful and impressive space about Vietnam and Phu Quoc in the eyes of international friends.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Ngo Cong Thuc, Vice Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee, said: "Investing in construction projects also aims to renovate and upgrade the quality of urban infrastructure, protect landscape and environment to make Phu Quoc special zone a green civilized urban area, worthy of the APEC international event, and promote the cultural image of Phu Quoc special zone to countries around the world. The technical infrastructure in Phu Quoc Economic Zone has been deployed synchronously, making it a green tourism area, a leading international advanced resort."

Of the 10 projects mentioned above, provincial road DT 9.75 constructed by Sun Group is considered a key infrastructure project. The 19.26 km long route, with a total investment of VND2,034 billion, directly connects Phu Quoc Airport, the main traffic gateway of the island with the DT 9.73 axis road and the APEC conference center, An Thoi and Bai Truong areas.
With a wide roadway of 60-62 m, at least 6 lanes and a 15 m land fund reserved for parallel trains, the project will open up a modern traffic axis, creating conditions for the development of mixed-use urban tourism areas, commercial centers, public services and entertainment. This is an important step in the process of building Phu Quoc into a modern coastal city, a regional and international center for resort tourism, trade, health care and services.
The two undergrounding projects of technical infrastructure in Duong Dong and An Thoi areas, two important urban centers of Phu Quoc, will create a civilized and modern urban appearance, improve the quality of public space and improve traffic safety. At the same time, the Phu Quoc Smart Monitoring and Operation Center project is being implemented to apply AI technology, big data and advanced technologies, serving socio-economic management, traffic management, security, environment and urban planning, ensuring the government has the ability to make accurate and timely decisions.
For many years, Phu Quoc has faced challenges regarding the environment and clean water. At the groundbreaking ceremony, An Giang province also announced the projects of waste treatment plants, solid waste and freshwater reservoirs. In particular, Cua Can Lake with a capacity of 7.5 million m3 is capable of supplying 49,500 m3/day and night with water, which will solve the problem of water security for the area north of Phu Quoc Island, meeting the water supply needs in the context of rapid urbanization and rapid tourism growth. The project is also oriented to exploit natural landscapes to serve eco-tourism, contributing to the development of smart cities, green growth and adaptation to climate change.
In addition, environmental and energy projects such as Bai Bon Waste Treatment Plant, An Thoi Solid Waste Treatment Plant, Bai Bon Waste Treatment Plant and Cua Can Clean Water Plant with a total investment of hundreds of billions of VND will help improve waste treatment capacity, provide clean water and environmentally friendly electricity. These are essential projects for Phu Quoc to both develop the economy, protect the environment and improve the quality of life of residents, in line with the orientation of green growth and sustainable development.

In particular, the embankment and site clearance project for the APEC Conference Center, with an area of 57 hectares, will create a foundation for the construction of the APEC 2027 Conference Center and related functional works. In addition to the task of serving international conferences, this project also has long-term strategic significance, contributing to the completion of coastal urban infrastructure, attracting investment and developing island tourism space.
The An Thoi Resettlement Area Project with an area of nearly 24 hectares and about 1,200 resettlement plots is considered a humane and practical solution. The project is constructed by Sun Group, with the goal of creating a residential land fund to resettle people whose land has been recovered in projects serving APEC 2027 and socio-economic development projects in Phu Quoc. This is also an important preparation step to ensure the rights and stabilize the lives of the people, while creating space for Phu Quoc to develop modern infrastructure and urban space.

Representing contractors for the APEC 2027 projects, Mr. Bui Thanh Trung - Chairman of Sun Group Southern Region - the contractor of the DT975 project and An Thoi Resettlement Area, shared: " Sun Group and contractors are committed to mobilizing all their intelligence, resources and experience, implementing projects with a spirit of discipline, international standards, rapid progress, superior quality - so that each project not only serves APEC 2027, but also brings value and long-term contributions to the community and to the sustainable development of the locality".
The simultaneous start of 10 key projects not only demonstrates An Giang's proactiveness and determination in concretizing the Central's planning and direction in implementing projects to serve APEC 2027, but also opens up great opportunities for Phu Quoc to break through, enhancing its position on the international tourism and trade map. When completed, these projects will contribute to shaping the new face of the island city, meeting the expectations of people and the business community, while affirming Vietnam's position in successfully organizing important international events such as APEC 2027.
