On September 26, at the 3rd session (special session), the An Giang Provincial People's Council approved the draft resolution on the Decision on the policy of converting forest use to other purposes to implement the Cua Can Lake investment project.
The project is invested by the An Giang Province Agricultural and Rural Development Investment Project Management Board, with a total project implementation area of 332 hectares.
The land area with forest planning origin is 325.97 hectares, of which the forested area is 220.28 hectares and the unforested area is 105.69 hectares.
The proposed area for approval of the policy of converting forest use to other purposes is 220.28 hectares in Sub-area 75 of Phu Quoc Special Zone, An Giang Province (currently, this location is no longer planned for forestry purposes).
The Provincial People's Committee said that the project aims to effectively exploit the water source of Cai stream basin to provide a stable and long-term water source, contributing to ensuring water security for the area north of Phu Quoc island in the context of rapid urbanization, population growth and increasingly high tourism development of Phu Quoc special zone. Thereby contributing to the implementation of the goal of planning for the development of a synchronous, modern and sustainable water supply infrastructure system according to the general planning orientation of the locality.
Combining the development of reservoirs in a multi-purpose direction, bringing comprehensive economic, social and environmental benefits, while taking advantage of the potential of natural landscapes to serve eco-tourism activities and services. Create favorable conditions to attract investment, stabilize population, develop surrounding areas, improve quality of life, contribute to smart urban development, green growth and adaptation to climate change.
In the current context, there are many reasons leading to difficulties in implementing water reservoir projects according to the planning, leading to the urgent need to ensure a stable water source for Phu Quoc in the long term, so investing in the construction of Cua Can Lake in this period is extremely necessary and appropriate.
This is not only to meet the increasing demand for domestic and domestic water but also to ensure sustainable development, respond to the impacts of climate change, protect water resources and improve the quality of life for island residents. Cua Can Lake will play an important role in stabilizing the water source for Phu Quoc in the long term.
In particular, Cua Can Lake is one of the projects under the plan to implement projects to serve the 2027 APEC Conference in Phu Quoc. Therefore, it is necessary to soon deploy the construction of Cua Can Lake to ensure the completion of foreign affairs tasks and national political tasks.
