According to storm and low pressure news from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), tropical depression KIYAPO has officially formed in the sea area east of the Philippines and is trending to strengthen in the coming days.
As of 4 am on July 23 (local time), the center of the tropical depression is at about 15.5 degrees North latitude - 130.5 degrees East longitude, about 950 km east of Luzon Island.
The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression reached 45 km/h, gusting up to 55 km/h.
PAGASA has issued Typhoon Warning Signal TCWS No. 1 for Batanes, Cagayan (including the Babuyan Islands), Isabela, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, part of Mountain Province, Ifugao, Ilocos Norte, northern Ilocos Sur and northern Aurora. This area may record strong winds of 39-61 km/h in the next 36 hours, with the risk of causing minor damage.
In addition to strong winds, the circulation of the KIYAPO tropical depression combined with the Southwest monsoon may cause heavy rain in many areas of the Philippines in the next few days.
According to forecasts, tropical depression KIYAPO will move in a Northwest direction until July 25, moving towards the Luzon Bay area before turning to the Northwest. The system may go very close or directly affect the north of Cagayan province and the Babuyan archipelago from morning to afternoon July 24.
PAGASA predicts that the tropical depression will gradually strengthen into a tropical storm on July 24, continue to strengthen as it passes through the northernmost part of Luzon and enters the East Sea in the early morning of July 25.
This will be storm number 2 making landfall in the East Sea this storm season. At that time, the storm will continue to strengthen fiercely in the East Sea before making landfall in mainland China.
The meteorological agency also warned of rough seas in many sea areas in the East of the Philippines, waves from 2-3 m high, advising small boats not to go out to sea.
