Bebinca is said to be the strongest typhoon to hit Shanghai in 75 years, bringing gusty winds and heavy rain to the city. Images posted on social media showed uprooted trees and toppled lampposts.

The typhoon officially made landfall on the second day of the three-day Mid-Autumn Festival holiday. Local authorities advised residents and visitors to stay indoors and only go out if absolutely necessary.
