Typhoon Wipha brought heavy thunderstorms as it approached the Philippine mainland, leaving more than 1,100 people stranded at 48 ports on the island nation, according to the Inquirer.

According to the latest storm information from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) at 8:00 p.m. on July 18, Typhoon Wipha is at about 100 km northeast of Aparri (Cagayan), with sustained winds of 75 km/h, gusts of up to 90 km/h, moving northwest at about 20 km/h.

According to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), as of 12:00 on July 18, 1,123 passengers, truck drivers and unloading staff were stuck at 48 ports nationwide due to Typhoon Wipha (local name in the Philippines is Crising) causing large waves and strong winds.

Currently, 10 areas in Luzon are applying level 2 storm wind signals, and 10 other areas are at level 1 to warn of the level of danger of the weather due to the storm.

PAGASA forecasts that Typhoon Wipha will continue moving northwest, sweeping across the Babuyan Islands overnight on July 18, and leaving the Philippine area of responsibility on Saturday morning or afternoon, July 19.

Tourists in the Philippines at this time should pay special attention to weather forecasts and follow the instructions of local authorities.

Domestic airlines such as Philippine Airlines have canceled at least 8 flights from Manila and Clark to localities such as Tuguegarao, Cauayan, Masbate, Basco on July 18 due to bad weather from Typhoon Wipha.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has also put 44 airports in a "high alert" status and continues to monitor developments to make recommendations when needed due to the impact of the storm.

There have been no reports of flight delays or cancellations, but Guangdong province, mainland China has issued a level IV warning, warning that Wipha could cause thunderstorms and strong winds. International airlines are still closely monitoring the situation.
