Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Lam Thi Phuong Thanh has just responded to petitions from voters in some localities sent after the first session of the 16th National Assembly.
Previously, voters in Ninh Binh province proposed to study and advise on merging the Great National Unity Day (November 18) with Vietnam Culture Day (November 24) to jointly organize cultural and community activities.
According to Minister Lam Thi Phuong Thanh, November 18th every year is the Traditional Day of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and also the Great National Unity Festival, as stipulated in the Law on the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
November 18th is associated with the birth of the Vietnam National United Front, aiming to promote patriotism, consolidate and strengthen the great national unity bloc, and encourage all classes of people to participate in building and protecting the Fatherland.
Meanwhile, November 24th every year is Vietnam Culture Day. The Politburo unanimously chose this day in Resolution 80-NQ/TW on the development of Vietnamese culture. After that, the National Assembly stipulated in Resolution 28/2026/QH16 that November 24th every year is Vietnam Culture Day; employees are entitled to leave from work and receive full salary.
Vietnam Culture Day aims to improve the people's ability to enjoy culture, encourage creative artists, and at the same time promote the whole society to promote and practice a civilized and cultured lifestyle.
Minister Lam Thi Phuong Thanh said that the organization of anniversaries, traditional days and major events during the year all aims to promote the historical, cultural and human values of Vietnam; educate patriotism and arouse the aspiration to develop the country.
However, each anniversary is established on the basis of different historical, political, and cultural events, with their own purposes, meanings, and organization requirements.
With Vietnam Culture Day, the selection of November 24 aims to honor Vietnamese culture, and at the same time affirm the position and role of culture as a foundation, an important endogenetic resource, a great driving force, a pillar and a regulatory system for rapid and sustainable development of the country.
This day is also aimed at raising awareness and responsibility of the entire political system and society for the cause of building and developing Vietnamese culture and people; encouraging artists, intellectuals and cultural workers to continue to be creative and contribute.
The Minister said that the Great National Unity Festival and Vietnam Culture Day have their own political and legal basis, meaning and goals, and complement each other, contributing to the implementation of the goals identified by the Party, the National Assembly and the law.
Accepting the opinions of voters, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will continue to guide localities to organize Vietnam Culture Day activities in accordance with the set goals, synchronously with other commemorative activities, ensuring practicality, effectiveness and suitability to the conditions of each locality.
