The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has just issued a document contributing opinions to the draft plan for Vietnam Culture Day holiday in 2026, Lunar New Year holiday and National Day holiday in 2027, which the Ministry of Home Affairs is seeking opinions on.
For the 2027 Lunar New Year, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism agreed to choose option 1, 7 consecutive days off and no workday swap.
Accordingly, civil servants and public employees will be off from Thursday, February 4, 2027 (ie, December 28 of the Binh Ngo year) to the end of Wednesday, February 10, 2027 (ie, January 5 of the Dinh Mui year). The total duration of the holiday is 7 consecutive days, including 5 Tet holidays according to regulations and 2 compensatory holidays due to weekly holiday overlaps.
Previously, the Ministry of Home Affairs proposed two plans for Tet Nguyen Dan holiday in 2027 to get opinions from ministries and sectors.
In option 2, civil servants and public employees will be off from Friday, February 5, 2027 (December 29 of the Binh Ngo year) to the end of Sunday, February 14, 2027 (January 9 of the Dinh Mui year), a total of 10 consecutive days. This option applies workday swap, in which the working day Friday, February 12, 2027 is transferred to Saturday, February 27, 2027.
To complete the dossier to submit to the Prime Minister for consideration and decision on the holiday and Tet holiday plan, the Ministry of Home Affairs requests 13 agencies, including the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, to study, participate in written opinions and send them to the Ministry of Home Affairs before August 10 for synthesis.
For Vietnam Culture Day 2026, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also agreed to choose option 1. Accordingly, the working day of Monday, November 23, 2026 is exchanged for Saturday, November 28, 2026, helping officials, civil servants, and public employees have 4 consecutive days off, from Saturday, November 21, to the end of Tuesday, November 24, 2026 and make up for work on November 28, 2026.
The remaining option is to take leave on Vietnam Culture Day, November 24th, and not to switch working days. The Ministry of Home Affairs proposes to choose the option of taking 4 consecutive days off to create conditions for officials, civil servants, and public employees to participate in cultural activities, contributing to promoting the meaning of Vietnam Culture Day.
For National Day 2027, the Ministry of Home Affairs proposes that civil servants and public employees take 4 consecutive days off, from September 2nd to the end of September 5th, 2027. In which, National Day holiday is on Thursday (September 2nd) and the following day is Friday (September 3rd), followed by two weekend days off, September 4th and 5th.
