Ca Mau launches the 2025 Crab Festival, hunting for the record of the largest crab in Vietnam

Ca Mau - The 2nd Ca Mau Crab Festival in 2025 creates a bustling atmosphere with the contest to find "the biggest Ca Mau crab" to propose setting a Vietnamese record.

Information from the Organizing Committee of the 2nd Ca Mau Crab Festival, the festival will take place from November 16 to 18 with many new activities added after the first organization.

This year's event has the theme "Hello Ca Mau", which was communicated simultaneously in Ho Chi Minh City and Ca Mau province to increase the level of spread.

The most notable highlight before the festival is the contest to set the largest curve record. Although the event took place on November 16, the Ca Mau Crab Festival was bustling with the competition to set a record for Ca Mau Crab.

Mr. Quach Van An, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Ca Mau province, said that from October 20 to 15:00 on November 18, organizations and individuals can register to compete. The crabs participating must be sea crabs of Ca Mau origin, live, clean, fully covered and have a minimum weight of 1.452 kg. Each organization and individual is allowed to submit many samples for the contest.

The Organizing Committee weighs and measures directly at the exam scoring, in which weight is the main criterion; if the two children reach the same weight, the size of the apricot will be the determining factor. The heaviest crab will be proposed to set a national record and awarded on the evening of November 18 at Phan Ngoc Hien Square. The prizes include the first prize of 15 million VND, the second prize of 10 million VND and the third prize of 5 million VND.

The atmosphere of the contest makes owners and community tourism attractions eagerly wait. Mr. Nguyen Van Hon, owner of Hoang Hon Restaurant (Dat Mui, Ca Mau), said that many households have proactively kept large crabs to try their hand.

According to Mr. Hon, the biggest crab will be the pride and honor of the tourist destination, and there will be more opportunities for visitors.

The opening ceremony of the Festival is associated with the art performance program with the theme: "Cua Ca Mau: Huong rung - Vi bien", taking place at 8:00 p.m. on November 16, at Phan Ngoc Hien Square, Le Duan Street, An Xuyen Ward, Ca Mau Province.

The closing ceremony of the Festival and award ceremony of the contests is scheduled to take place at 7:00 p.m. on November 18, at Phan Ngoc Hien Square, Le Duan Street, An Xuyen Ward, Ca Mau Province.

In addition to the main competition, Ca Mau Crab Festival also has a series of cultural and commercial activities: space for displaying and exhibiting OCOP products, Ca Mau crab cuisine area, comprehensive trade fair, crab processing demonstration, contest "Dices from Ca Mau crab"... Cultural and sports activities such as Ca Mau Marathon 2025, Southern Talent Festival are also held on this occasion.

Notably, the series of events CamaUP'25 - Ca Mau Province Startup Festival in 2025 will take place in parallel with the Forum "Ca Mau: Growth driver of the Mekong Delta"; International Workshop "Innovation for sustainable development of Vietnam's sea crab industry" and the final round of the contest "Green seafood - Sustainable development trend".

Ca Mau has a combined crab farming area of about 418,340 hectares, with an average yield of 0.1 ton/ha/year. Ca Mau strives to achieve a total commercial crab output of about 41,834 tons/year.

The province aims to develop about 200 hectares of semi-intensive crab farming area, with an average yield of 0.5 tons/ha/crop, for an output of about 100 tons.
