The Phu Quoc special zone government will create conditions for households to continue trading at the night market until after the Lunar New Year if they meet the conditions according to regulations.

On the afternoon of January 9, leaders of Phu Quoc special zone (An Giang) informed about the suspension of the operation of Bach Dang night market (Phu Quoc night market).

In September 2015, the Phu Quoc District Economic Department (now the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Department) signed an economic contract with Ngoi Sao Bien Tourism Joint Stock Company to lease premises to organize Bach Dang pedestrian street and night market (Phu Quoc night market) for a term of 10 years, ending on December 31, 2025.

The Chairman of Phu Quoc Special Zone People's Committee also directed the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Department to preside over and coordinate with relevant units to implement contract liquidation in accordance with the law; and at the same time coordinate with Ngoi Sao Bien Tourism Joint Stock Company to organize surveys and collect opinions from small business households; preside over and coordinate with relevant units to strengthen propaganda and guide individual business households (with houses and land in the above area) to carry out business in accordance with the law, without encroaching on roadways, sidewalks, and sidewalks.

On December 23, 2025, the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Department of Phu Quoc Special Zone issued a notice to Ngoi Sao Bien Tourism Joint Stock Company requesting payment of debt in the third and fourth quarters of 2025. At the same time, requesting the company to hand over the entire leased land area according to the current status when the contract ends.

However, currently many small traders have expressed their desire to continue trading because at the time close to the upcoming Lunar New Year, some households have imported goods to sell, so if it ends, it will also cause difficulties for small traders.

Talking about this issue, the leader of Phu Quoc Special Zone said that Ngoi Sao Bien Tourism Joint Stock Company's contract with the Department of Economy, Infrastructure and Urban Development expired; it was also entangled in regulations on site exploitation, so the contract was terminated. The night market is still operating normally.

Small traders who have land lease contracts with this company will resolve it themselves in accordance with commitments and legal regulations.

Regarding the fact that small traders have prepared goods to serve customers during the Lunar New Year, to avoid affecting economic life, the special zone will create conditions for households to continue trading in the night market until after Tet.

The special zone government always supports and creates conditions for small traders to operate until after the 2026 Lunar New Year if they meet the conditions on fire prevention and fighting, food safety and hygiene, other regulations... in the spirit of respecting the rule of law and in accordance with the actual situation of the special zone," the leader said.

According to a representative of Ngoi Sao Bien Tourism Joint Stock Company, the unit always implements the policy of the government, because the land lease contract expires, and related licenses also expire.

The company must work with the electricity and water supply unit to see the extension issue. If possible, the Company will continue to supply electricity and water so that small traders can operate business through Tet.
