Risk of unsafety increases
During the peak of hot weather, Da Nang beaches such as My Khe, Pham Van Dong or Nguyen Tat Thanh attract a large number of people and tourists to play and swim. Especially in the afternoon and on weekends, the beach areas are always crowded with people, especially children.
Real-world records show that many cases of children going to the sea by themselves are not equipped with life jackets, lacking direct supervision from adults. Some parents are also subjective when letting children play by themselves in the water while resting or doing their own work on the shore.
Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Tra, living in Thanh Khe, shared: "In recent years, the weather has become increasingly hot, and beaches have become a popular choice for many families, so the number of children going to the beach is increasing. When I bring my children down to swim, I always prepare life jackets and stand on the shore to observe while they play in the water.
Not only parents, many tourists coming to Da Nang are also interested in ensuring safety at the beaches when the number of visitors increases.
Mr. Tran Huu Nam, a tourist from Quang Ngai, said that the issue of keeping children safe needs to be put first. "Da Nang beach is very beautiful but also very crowded, I see many children swimming with their families but not fully equipped with life jackets. In my opinion, parents need to supervise and equip their children with swimming skills," Mr. Nam said.

Strengthening drowning prevention work
According to rescue forces, summer is a time when work pressure increases due to the large number of people flocking to the sea, especially in the late afternoon. There have been cases of children being swept away by waves, struggling and panicking underwater, which were detected and promptly supported.
Mr. Tran Xuan Tho, a member of the rescue team of the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang tourist beaches, said that the unit has stretched buoys to limit the safe swimming area, broadcast loudspeakers and put up warning flags at points with strong currents. He advised parents to put children in life jackets, swim in safe areas and always follow children closely.
The most important thing is still the parent's observation. Do not let children go to the sea on their own while adults lose focus because of using phones or doing other things," Mr. Tho emphasized.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Tien, a member of the rescue team under the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang tourist beaches, for cases of children not wearing life jackets, the rescue force always strengthens direct reminders.
“We monitor the area with children very carefully to promptly remind those who do not wear life jackets when going into the water. If we detect children swimming far away or showing signs of entering dangerous areas, the rescue team will immediately approach and request them to return to shore,” Mr. Tien added.
In addition to rescue work, communication activities to promote drowning prevention skills for children are also being promoted at many beaches in the city. Thereby, contributing to raising awareness and skills to ensure safety for people and tourists during the summer.
