On June 23, Mr. Tran Xuan Anh - Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Con Co Special Zone (Quang Tri province) said that there has been no rain in the Con Co special zone for 4 months.
Con Co Special Zone has an area of 2.3km2, of which more than 60% is natural forest. Currently, dry weather, accompanied by prolonged strong winds, makes the risk of forest fires very high. The risk of forest fires in Con Co special zone is being warned at Level V - extremely dangerous level.
To proactively prevent and stop the risk of forest fires, protect forest resources, ecological environment as well as the lives and property of the people, the People's Committee of Con Co Special Zone has requested to temporarily suspend all activities of sightseeing, eco-tourism, camping, and picnics in and along the forest.
From June 23, the Con Co special zone strictly prohibits all organizations, individuals and tourists from arbitrarily entering the forest until further notice to ensure safety in forest fire prevention and fighting.
At the same time, the Special Zone People's Committee assigned the Police to preside over and coordinate with the Economic - Social Department, Gio Linh - Con Co Forest Protection Department to advise on organizing forces to be on duty for forest fire prevention and fighting 24/24 hours. Inter-sectoral forces will strengthen patrols, inspections and closely monitor weather developments; prepare sufficient means, tools, and personnel to be ready to promptly handle forest fire situations arising, resolutely preventing fire spread and large fires.
