Ensuring safety for thousands of tourists coming to Ly Son every day

ĐÔNG GIANG |

Quang Ngai - To reassure tourists to explore Ly Son, functional forces tighten inspection of ships, canoes, life-saving equipment... before each ship trip.

Currently, the Sa Ky - Ly Son route is the largest waterway passenger transport route of the province, serving about 2,500 - 3,000 passengers per day with 13 - 15 high-speed train trips.

The sharp increase in passengers and vehicles during the tourist season requires regular inspection and supervision to be carried out to prevent the risk of unsafety from the beginning.

Mr. Duong Van Diep - Captain of Phu Quoc Express 5 ship said: "Before departing, we checked the entire system of machinery and maritime equipment, closely monitored the weather and storms. Sailors absolutely do not use alcohol or beer during duty.

Senior Lieutenant Ngo Lam - Head of Sa Ky Port Border Guard Station said that the unit regularly coordinates with Quang Ngai Maritime Administration to update weather developments hourly and daily to proactively advise on safety assurance plans. When bad weather exceeds the permissible limit, functional forces resolutely do not carry out departure procedures and notify and call ships and boats to safe shelters.

Along with the Sa Ky - Ly Son route, inspection work on the Big Island - Small Island route is also maintained seriously. Before the canoe departs, the police force, Border Guard and port management unit coordinate to check the number of passengers, technical condition of vehicles, life-saving equipment and the equipment of life jackets for passengers.

This is a transport route that mainly uses small speedboats. During the tourist season, the number of passengers increases, so if vehicle owners are subjective or carry more people than prescribed, it will potentially pose a risk of unsafety. Therefore, transport units must sign commitments to strictly implement regulations on waterway traffic safety, absolutely not carrying overload and always prioritizing the safety of passengers.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Nga, a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City, shared: "I feel very reassured that before each trip, functional forces carefully check vehicles and guide passengers to wear life jackets fully. This helps tourists feel more secure when visiting and experiencing in Ly Son.

According to Major Nguyen Tan Dat - Riverine Police Team, Traffic Police Department of Quang Ngai Provincial Police, the unit regularly inspects safety equipment such as life jackets, lifebuoys, life rafts, fire prevention and fighting vehicles to promptly detect and overcome unsafe risks.

At the same time, the unit reminded the captain and crew members to strictly comply with regulations on vehicle control and regulations on traffic techniques at sea and in the channel.

Since the beginning of the year, the Riverine Police force has detected and handled 24 cases of violations of legal regulations on waterway traffic safety on the Sa Ky - Ly Son and Big Island - Small Island routes.

Strengthening patrols, inspections, and strict handling of violations not only contributes to limiting risks and preventing serious incidents, but also raises the awareness of law compliance of vehicle owners, contributing to building Ly Son into a friendly, attractive and safe destination.
