On June 30, 2025, at the Quang Ngai Provincial Convention and Exhibition Center, the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee solemnly held a Ceremony to announce Resolutions and Decisions of the Central and local governments on merging provincial and commune-level administrative units; ending the operation of district-level administrative units; establishing a Party organization, appointing Party committees, People's Councils, People's Committees, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees at the provincial and commune levels.

Notably, announcing the Central Decision from July 1, 2025, Ly Son island district, Quang Ngai province officially becomes Ly Son Special Zone.
Accordingly: Mr. Nguyen Minh Tri holds the position of Secretary of the Ly Son Special Zone Party Committee.
Mr. Nguyen Van Huy holds the position of Chairman of the People's Committee of Ly Son Special Zone.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Tri, born in 1970, hometown Hanh Thien commune, Nghia Hanh district, Quang Ngai province. Before taking on the position of Secretary of the Ly Son Special Zone Party Committee, he held the following positions: Secretary of the Ly Son District Party Committee; Deputy Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs; Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tra Bong District; Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training; Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Mr. Nguyen Van Huy, born in 1980, hometown Cho Chua town, Nghia Hanh district, Quang Ngai province. Before taking on the position of Chairman of the People's Committee of Ly Son Special Zone, he was Deputy Secretary of the Ba To District Party Committee, Deputy Chief of the Provincial People's Committee Office.

Ly Son is the only island district located in the Northeast of Quang Ngai province, about 15 nautical miles from the mainland, with a natural area of over 10.39 km2 (including the Big and Be islands), with a population of over 24,000 people. Ly Son people mainly make a living by fishing, agriculture, tourism service business and some small-scale crafts.
Ly Son is a front island district of the country, playing an important role in ensuring national security and sovereignty at sea, while possessing many potentials and advantages in natural, historical, cultural tourism resources...
In recent years, Ly Son island district has developed strongly in tourism, trade and services. From the traditional life of the coastal area associated with offshore fishing boats, growing onions and garlic, islanders have shifted to the tourism and service sector.
After the arrangement of administrative units in 2025, the whole country will have 13 special zones, officially operating from July 1, 2025, including: Co To, Van Don (Quang Ninh); Cat Hai, Bach Long Vi (Hai Phong city); Con Co (Quang Tri); Ly Son (Quang Ngai); Hoang Sa (Da Nang city); Truong Sa (Khanh Hoa); Phu Quy (Lam Dong); Con Dao (HCMC); Phu Quoc, Kien Hai, Tho Chu (An Giang).
