On June 10, the People's Committee of Lam Dong province said that it had established a Council to appraise scientific dossiers proposing to cancel the decision to rank Gougah waterfall, belonging to Duc Trong commune, as a national scenic relic.

The Council has the task of reviewing the dossier before submitting it to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for decision according to its authority.
Previously, Duc Trong Commune People's Committee had a report sent to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lam Dong province requesting to report to competent authorities to consider canceling the ranking of national scenic spots for Gougah waterfall.
Gougah Waterfall (also known as O Ga Waterfall) has been recognized as a national scenic spot since 2000.
The relic area has a protected area of more than 129ha, of which protection area I is about 12ha.
The scenic spot is located next to National Highway 20, formed from the Da Nhim River flowing down to a depth of about 30m in the geological fault area.
According to Duc Trong Commune People's Committee, many factors creating the landscape value of the waterfall are no longer maintained as at the time of ranking.
In particular, after Dai Ninh hydropower reservoir accumulated water and operated, the natural hydrological regime in the area was significantly affected, and the water flow through the waterfall in the dry season decreased sharply.
The locality believes that the preservation and restoration of the original elements of the scenic spot is facing many difficulties, so it proposes to cancel the ranking decision to be consistent with the actual situation and serve management work.
