The People's Committee of Cao Bang province had a working session with Sun Group Group on the planning idea of Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourist Area.

After signing the "Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation on the Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourism Project" with the People's Committee of Cao Bang province in September 2025, Sun Group officially presented the overall planning idea of the project.

With an area of about 1,000 hectares, inspired by the "Ancient Vietnamese Legend" of King Tay, the Overall Planning Project of Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourist Area located in Dam Thuy Commune, Cao Bang Province, Vietnam aims at sustainable development, combining experiential tourism, community culture and cross-border exchange.

Accordingly, with a special location, located at the unique intersection between the core area of Non Nuoc Cao Bang Global Geopark (UN UNESCO) and Cao Bang Border Gate Economic Zone, the project will aim to develop this area into an international tourism destination, promote local value chains, protect the environment, avoid cultural commercialization; ensure community interests, border security, and respond to climate change.

Inspired by the Ancient Vietnamese Legend about King Tay, the project will orient the development of seamlessly connected subdivisions, aiming to exploit the advantages of majestic nature, national cultural identity and strategic border position with China.

In particular, each subdivision is associated with legends and folktales, exploiting the beauty of Ban Gioc waterfall, Quay Son river, Nguom Ngao cave..., honoring the rice-watering civilization, spiritual culture through works, art shows, experiential tourism products, and international-class resort services.

The project is positioned as a Border Green Heritage, promising to turn this land into an international tourist destination that harmoniously combines nature conservation and promoting indigenous cultural values. The implementation of the project is also associated with the roadmap for realizing the Agreement on cooperation in protecting and exploiting tourism resources of Ban Gioc waterfall (Vietnam) - Duc Thien (China).

The project aims to attract about 1.5 million visitors per year right after the expressway is expanded and is expected to reach 4 million visitors after 5 years of implementation, creating a strong breakthrough for the local socio-economy.

In 2025, Cao Bang is expected to welcome more than 2.5 million visitors, including nearly 96,000 international visitors; total tourism revenue is estimated at more than 2,500 billion VND. The figures are not assessed to match the potential of the "Cao Bang non-food" brand on the map of Vietnamese and international tourism.

In that context, the Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourist Area Master Plan project is expected to become a magnet to attract tourists to Cao Bang when completed, making tourism - services a spearhead economic sector, contributing greatly to the province's GRDP.

By promoting the local value chain and community tourism model, the project also promises to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for local people. This not only helps increase income, improve people's lives but also arouses national pride, when the Tay and Nung people themselves become cultural ambassadors introducing their identity to international friends.

At the meeting, Mr. Phan Thang An - Secretary of the Cao Bang Provincial Party Committee said that the province highly appreciated the idea of planning Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourist Area, hoping that this will be an iconic project, bringing Cao Bang into the international tourism flow, not just domestically.

Cao Bang does not lack natural resources and tourism potential, but lacks investors with enough vision and drastic actions. The State plays a role in creating, but needs qualified corporations to lead, help the people benefit, and open a new symbol of Vietnam tourism - Secretary of the Cao Bang Provincial Party Committee affirmed.
