The 2026 New Year holiday lasts 4 days, from January 1st to January 4th, leading to increased travel demand from many families and groups of friends.
Thanks to the advantage of being close to Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai and the Southeast provinces, the old Binh Thuan area (Lam Dong province) continues to be a destination chosen by many tourists.

Among them, Phu Quy island is an attractive tourist destination thanks to its pristine landscape, blue sea and peaceful rhythm of life. Phu Quy Special Zone is 56 nautical miles from the mainland, currently has 3 high-speed boats operating the Phan Thiet - Phu Quy route with a travel time of about 2.5 hours.
However, the beginning of the year coincides with the Northeast monsoon season, big waves make sea travel unstable. According to the announcement of Superdong shipyard - the unit operating 2 high-speed ships on this route - on January 1, there was still 1 ship trip to Phu Quy island.
From January 2nd to January 5th, train trips will be temporarily suspended due to waves 3.5-4m high, not ensuring safety for passengers.
This means that on January 4 - the time of the end of the holiday - there will be no high-speed trains bringing tourists from the island back to the mainland.
It is expected that if the weather is favorable, Superdong will resume operation from January 6. At the same time, Trung Trac Phu Quy shipyard also announced a temporary suspension of operation from January 1 to February 3.

Representatives of Binh Thuan Maritime Port Authority said that the temporary suspension of operation is a proactive decision of ship owners to ensure safety for passengers, not because functional agencies prohibit ships from operating.
During the time the high-speed train stops operating, the cargo transport route between the island and the mainland is still maintained by cargo ships. In the context of difficulties going to the island, coastal tourism in Phan Thiet - Mui Ne is forecast to be more vibrant during the New Year.

Welcoming the new year 2026, Lam Dong province organizes a series of cultural, artistic, tourism, culinary and entertainment activities in three areas: Da Lat Center, East (Phan Thiet) and West (Gia Nghia).
On Nguyen Dinh Chieu street (Mui Ne ward), many street art programs are organized to create a New Year atmosphere, aimed at groups of international tourists staying for long days.
Many resorts and accommodation facilities are ready to welcome guests, room occupancy is increasing; some resorts also organize countdown programs and New Year's Eve parties on the night of December 31 to serve tourists.

While Phu Quy island tourism is affected by the weather, Phan Thiet - Mui Ne coastal destinations are taking advantage of the first days of the year to attract tourists. Thereby, contributing to maintaining the growth momentum for the local tourism industry in the first days of 2026.
