If before 2021, Dien Bien province did not have any community tourism spots, up to now, the whole province has 12 cultural and community tourism villages, 6 homestays and 12 sightseeing and entertainment spots attracting tourists to visit and experience.
Destinations such as Phieng Loi village, Che Can village (Dien Bien Phu city), Men village (Dien Bien district), Na Su village (Nam Po district)... have become familiar to those who love to explore indigenous culture.
This shows that community tourism in Dien Bien is proving its appeal as more and more communities are participating. In particular, recently, the trend of community tourism has spread to Mong villages in the highlands such as Tia Lo village (Dien Bien Dong district), Long village (Tuan Giao district), Nam Cum village (Muong Ang district)...
With the advantage of owning more than 1,200 Ban trees spread throughout the village and the unique cultural identity of the Mong ethnic group, Muong Ang has chosen Nam Cum village, Ngoi Cay commune as the first community tourism destination of the district.
To implement Nam Cum community tourism associated with the conservation of Ban flowers, Muong Ang district has mobilized agencies and organizations to help households renovate and upgrade facilities such as public toilets, housing grounds, creating flower gardens, ornamental plants, etc.
About 40km from the center of Dien Bien Phu city, Tia Lo village, Noong U commune, Dien Bien Dong district, is located at an altitude of more than 1,000m above sea level, with a cool climate all year round. With the advantage of natural landscape and the friendliness of the H'Mong ethnic people, this place is gradually becoming an attractive destination.
Realizing the tourism potential, many households in Tia Lo village have proactively built homestays, turning traditional houses into accommodation places, ready to welcome tourists.
As one of the pioneers in this movement, Mr. Ho A Senh said: “I hope the community tourism model will help the people of Tia Lo village improve their lives. However, the lack of investment capital is a big obstacle.”
Speaking to Lao Dong, Mr. Cu A Cha - Chairman of the People's Committee of Noong U commune - said: "Currently, Tia Lo village has 27 households registered to participate in the community tourism model, of which 22 households have started implementing. Households are actively completing items to welcome tourists."
According to Mr. Cha, the process of developing community tourism in Tia Lo village encountered many difficulties, especially the lack of funds for households to invest in building rooms, check-in locations, etc.
