Gia Lai officially put Mui Tan wharf into operation to serve the canoe route to Cu Lao Xanh, opening a new tourist gateway connecting the mainland with the only island commune of the province.

From June 15, passenger canoes on the Quy Nhon - Nhon Chau island commune route (also known as Cu Lao Xanh) officially moved to operate at Mui Tan wharf on Xuan Dieu street (Quy Nhon ward).

Putting the new wharf into operation aims to improve service quality, create convenience for tourists when moving to the island commune, and reduce overload pressure in the Quy Nhon fishing port area.

Previously, passengers going to Cu Lao Xanh departed from the Hai Cang area, sharing infrastructure with Quy Nhon Fishing Port. The Hai Cang - Nhon Chau inland waterway route is about 30km long.

During the tourist season, especially in the peak summer months, the number of visitors to Cu Lao Xanh has increased sharply, concentrated in the Quy Nhon Fishing Port area to travel between the mainland and the island commune.

However, Quy Nhon Fishing Port was built many years ago with the main function of serving fishing and fishery logistics. After a long period of operation, some infrastructure items have deteriorated.

Currently, the port mainly serves fishing boat anchoring, seafood loading and unloading, seafood trading and fishery logistics services. Due to the specific nature of production activities, this area often generates noise, wastewater, seafood waste, traffic jams and other environmental problems, not meeting the requirements of tourism development in a civilized, modern and tourist-friendly direction.

Inspecting operations at Mui Tan wharf on the morning of June 15, Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan requested strict control of ships entering and leaving, ensuring absolute safety for passengers and vehicles.

The Department of Construction and the Department of Agriculture and Environment are assigned to inspect channels, assess flow rates and implement treatment solutions to ensure smooth waterway transport operations.

Regarding tourism business activities, Mr. Tuan requested to rectify the situation of unfair competition between travel businesses.

Currently, tourists going to Cu Lao Xanh mainly go on tours of businesses, so there is no unified ticket price. Therefore, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested to build a common ticket price when Mui Tan wharf becomes a central point to pick up and drop off tourists to the island, avoiding the situation where each business issues a separate type of ticket.

Nhon Chau is the only island commune of Gia Lai province. In recent years, thanks to synchronous investment in infrastructure and livelihood support policies for people, the appearance of the island commune has changed a lot.

Tourism and services are developing strongly, accounting for about 45% of the local economic structure. Experiential products such as SUP paddling, coral diving, sea and island exploration... are increasingly attracting tourists, contributing to creating new development momentum for Cu Lao Xanh.
