In recent days, images and videos recording the scene of hundreds of people participating in the terraced field climbing race during the flood season in Mu Cang Chai have been widely shared on social networks, attracting millions of views and comments.
Clips filmed with unmanned aerial vehicles from a high angle show the long line of people, moving continuously through each layer of rice fields, creating a frame that is both strange and clearly shows the difficulty of the terrain.
Many fan pages and news sites re-posting this content all recorded a large number of comments, in which many opinions expressed curiosity and desire to experience it directly.

Previously, the terraced field climbing race "Footprints of the Watershed Season" for the first time in 2026 took place on May 1st in Mu Cang Chai commune (Lao Cai). The event gathered about 300 athletes, competing on the route passing through more than 100 rice fields in Hang Dang De village - an area assessed as having typical landscapes in the watershed season.
During the competition, athletes must overcome slippery mud terrain, continuously climbing slopes along each rice field level. Competition conditions require a combination of physical strength, balance skills and quick adaptability. The entire journey takes place in a unique natural terrain context, without a flat surface like regular running races.
The organizers said that the athletes all complied with regulations, showing a serious competitive spirit. At the end of the tournament, individuals who achieved high results in each distance were awarded prizes according to regulations.

Besides the sporting element, the activity also contributes to promoting the terraced field landscape during the flood season, and at the same time creates more products to attract tourists.
From the spreading effect on social networks, many opinions suggested maintaining the annual tournament to continue to exploit the attraction from the unique image of the terrain and different competition experiences.
