On April 22, information from the People's Committee of Lao Cai province said that for the first time, the terraced field climbing competition will be held in Mu Cang Chai during the April 30 - May 1 holiday, promising to become a new highlight attracting tourists to the highland flood season.
Accordingly, the terraced field climbing race will take place on May 1st in Hang Dang De village.
The tournament is organized by Mu Cang Chai Commune People's Committee in coordination with Viet Jungle Co., Ltd., with the theme "Footprints of the Watershed Season". This is a product combining sports and tourism, aiming to promote the image of terraced fields - a natural and cultural heritage of the Northwest region.
The event is expected to attract about 300 athletes, expanding to local people and domestic and foreign tourists. Participants are 14 years old or older; cases under 18 years old must have the consent of parents or guardians.
The highlight of the race is the challenge of conquering 100 terraced fields in the flood season. Not only requiring physical strength and speed, this journey also brings practical experiences about the landscape and cultural life of the highlands.

The competition includes two rounds: qualifying round and final round. The qualifying round is divided into 6 rounds, each round with 50 athletes, selected according to track completion achievements. 60 athletes with the best achievements will enter the final round to compete for high rankings.
The organizers awarded 10 official prizes, including 1 first prize worth 3.5 million VND, 1 second prize 2.5 million VND, 1 third prize 1.5 million VND and 7 consolation prizes, each prize 1 million VND, accompanied by certificates. In addition, athletes also have the opportunity to receive gifts from sponsors and local specialties.
The terraced field climbing competition for the 2026 flood season is expected to create more highlights for local tourism, contributing to attracting tourists, while promoting cultural exchange and strengthening community connection.
