As the April 30 - May 1 holiday approaches, the accommodation market in Hanoi recorded less vibrant developments than expected.
Many accommodation establishments said that the number of room bookings and revenue tended to decrease significantly compared to the same period last year, in the context of tourists strongly shifting to resort tourist destinations.
According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh - Marketing Manager of a accommodation establishment in Hanoi, the number of visitors during this year's holiday is significantly lower than in 2025, currently the room occupancy rate is only about 30%.
According to our hotel's analysis, the number of guests staying in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City this year has decreased sharply. Currently, it is only about 30% full. Meanwhile, branches in Sa Pa, Da Nang, and Ha Long are fully booked for April 30 and May 1. This shows that customers are tending to choose tourist destinations instead of staying in big cities," Mr. Thanh said.

Sharing the same opinion, Ms. Hoang Anh Ngoc - representative of a accommodation business - said that long holidays are not the peak season of the hotel market in Hanoi.
During this holiday, the room occupancy rate in Hanoi is only about 65%. Conversely, tourism markets such as Da Lat, Da Nang, Hoi An have almost reached maximum occupancy rates," Ms. Ngoc shared.
Not only recording a decrease in the number of visitors, this year's holiday tourism market also witnessed a clear change in consumer behavior. According to accommodation units, tourists tend to prioritize short trips, focusing on experience and cost optimization instead of choosing long holidays as before.
This year's travel trend has shifted quite clearly. Customers no longer prioritize long, long-day trips but switch to short trips of 2-3 days, closer but with higher experience requirements. At the same time, they are also more cautious in spending, willing to optimize total costs but still spend on truly valuable services. This makes demand fragmented, shorter stay time but higher service quality requirements," Ms. Hoang Anh Ngoc analyzed.

In crowded areas, hotels also recommend that guests proactively book rooms early to have better prices during peak seasons.
Customers can book directly through the hotel's website to receive incentives. In addition, during the room booking process, they can contact the consulting department for support in choosing a suitable service package," said Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh.

Faced with this reality, accommodation establishments in Hanoi are proactively adjusting their business strategies, implementing many preferential programs to stimulate demand. Some units offer combo accommodation packages with dining and experience services to increase value for customers.
