According to the Island Hot List 2026 ranking announced by Expedia - one of the largest online travel service platforms in the world - Phu Quoc Island (An Giang) ranks 9th in the list of 10 most prominent resort islands in 2026.
Along with Phu Quoc, many other famous destinations are also present in the ranking such as St. Lucia (Caribbean), Porto Santo (Portugal), Praslin (Seychelles), Syros (Greece), Lofoten Islands (Norway), Palawan (Philippines), Culebra (Puerto Rico), Sanibel (USA) and the island nation of Fiji.
According to Expedia, the demand for resort tourism on islands is increasing strongly globally. Online searches for this type of tourism increased by an average of 55% compared to the same period last year, while the number of mentions on social networks increased by about 20%.
This trend shows that tourists are increasingly prioritizing destinations with fresh nature, peaceful space, and rich cultural identity instead of overcrowded tourist destinations.
For Phu Quoc, Expedia assesses this as a destination suitable for the trend of "luxury resorts at reasonable costs" (Affordable Luxury). This platform said that the amount of interest in Phu Quoc on social networks increased by 235% compared to the same period last year, reflecting the increasing attraction of the island to international tourists.
In recent years, Phu Quoc has emerged as a high-class resort center of Southeast Asia thanks to its ability to bring quality accommodation experiences at a more competitive cost than many famous destinations in the region.
Besides the coastal resort system, the island also owns white sand beaches, clear blue water, rich forest-sea ecosystems and many diverse tourism products, from nature exploration, diving, local cultural experiences to large-scale entertainment.
Expedia believes that current travel trends are shifting from traditional "hot spots" to emerging islands, where tourists can enjoy peaceful space, experience local culture and find better values for their vacation. The platform also recommends that tourists book services early or choose to travel in low season to have better prices and more accommodation options.
The continuous appearance in the rankings of international tourism organizations and platforms shows the increasing competitiveness of Phu Quoc in the global tourism market. This is also a positive sign for Vietnam's sea and island tourism in the context that the demand for high-class resorts, associated with nature and local experiences continues to be the dominant trend of international tourists.
