The application of artificial intelligence (AI) is currently considered the optimal solution for the tourism accommodation industry, bringing high efficiency and reducing labor costs. AI combines advanced algorithms with modern equipment to perform tasks and handle situations effectively and professionally.
In the 4.0 revolution, AI emerges as a golden key to help businesses access enormous processing speeds, unlimited storage capacity and minimize risks in all fields.
In the hotel industry, AI can replace and increase work efficiency in departments such as reservations, check-in/check-out, room service, and engineering (electricity and water control). Technological developments have improved the efficiency of daily operations in the 21st century, and AI is a solution that benefits all stakeholders.
Currently in Vietnam, large hotel systems are applying AI in serving tourists to bring new and more convenient experiences.
Since 2021, Vingroup has launched a comprehensive hotel management application, "resolving" incompatibility in hotel operations, when important management systems such as room reservations, restaurants, guest request recording, shift assignment, equipment maintenance, etc. are built by many different companies.
The group's CiHMS digital solution is built on a cloud computing platform. The application helps digitize information and unify data from all management and operational activities in the hotel.
In addition, to ensure information security, all transactions and data on the system are encrypted when stored. Customer information and data are secured with PCI/DSS certification (equivalent to banking data security standards).
Previously, in 2019, Vinpearl announced that it would become the first hotel, tourism, resort and entertainment system in Vietnam to apply facial recognition technology based on artificial intelligence. With this application, visitors can maximize their experience with a series of utilities such as automatic doors, check-in within 3 seconds or open the room door, shop and pay with... a smile.
Currently, Vinpearl is applying a new solution called Vizone Access for both customers and employees in 4 regions: Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Nam Hoi An/Da Nang, Ha Long.
Vizone Access is a facial access control solution developed by VinBigData. Developed based on core technologies of facial recognition and counterfeit detection, Vizone Access can be applied in hotel and resort systems to support check-in/out activities, access monitoring or employee attendance.
For tourists, technology helps with “touchless” check-in and check-out, replacing traditional check-in procedures, opening room doors, making automatic payments, using services at restaurants, entertainment areas, etc. For employees, this solution also manages attendance and controls access between work areas according to authorization.
According to Vinpearl representative, facial recognition technology is now capable of recognizing quickly within one second, possessing a large data processing algorithm system with a scale of millions of faces. User information is secured, highly accurate and flexible security warnings in real time. Thanks to this technology, visitors reduce waiting time for procedures and the process of moving between internal areas.
Ngoc To, a tourist from Hanoi, felt excited when she first experienced checking in at a resort in Ha Long using a facial recognition machine. “It only took me a few seconds to complete the check-in procedure and receive my room. When using services at the buffet restaurant, private game areas... I don't need to bring my room card. The procedure is quick and convenient throughout my stay,” she said.
In addition to the feature of automatically identifying guests entering and leaving the premises, other features such as opening the room door, shopping at the store system and payment are all integrated in just one step.
Technology experts say that AI and Big Data have been increasingly widely applied in the tourism and hospitality industry recently. This technology can effectively support and enhance the entire personal experience of tourists, from check-in to when they return home. Therefore, many other domestic businesses are likely to witness major technological changes at different scales, bringing better service experiences to domestic and foreign tourists when coming to Vietnam.
The potential of AI in the hotel industry in Vietnam is huge, promising to support increased capacity, enhance customer experience and ensure sustainable development of the tourism and hotel industry in the future.
