On September 1, information from Sa Pa Ward People's Committee, the locality is urgently preparing the conditions to organize Vietnam Mountain Marathon 2026 (VMM), expected to attract more than 5,300 domestic and international athletes.
Vietnam Mountain Marathon 2026 takes place from September 17-20 with 6 distances including 10km, 21km, 50km, 70km, 100km and 100 miles (161km).
By August 19, the Organizing Committee recorded more than 5,300 registered athletes, of which about 34% were foreigners, from 54 countries and territories.
VMM 2026 continues to be part of the World Trail Majors system, with two distances of 50km and 100km within the system's competition framework.
The tournament brings together many notable Vietnamese athletes such as Ha Hau, Ngo Van Chinh - the 2025 VMM 100km champion - and Sung A Su.
The route passes through Sa Pa ward and the communes of Ta Van, Ban Ho, Ta Phin, and Muong Bo.
Plans to ensure security and order, traffic safety, traffic diversion, health and rescue are being reviewed throughout the route.

Police, military and medical personnel are expected to be stationed at water intake points and key rescue locations.
Traps have also been cleared, marked, and markers have been placed to ensure the safety of athletes.
Besides the runway, Sa Pa prepares conditions to welcome and serve a large number of athletes and tourists.
VMM Expo area at Sa Pa Stadium is expected to organize sports, cultural and community activities during the tournament.
With a large scale and the participation of athletes from many countries, VMM 2026 is expected to continue to promote the landscape, culture and people of Sa Pa, contributing to promoting sports tourism in the locality.
