An Giang - In the first 7 months of the year, Phu Quoc airport served more than 4.48 million passengers, an increase of more than 1.23 million passengers (nearly 38%) compared to the same period in 2025.

Recently, Sun Phu Quoc Airways officially launched the Phu Quoc - Bangkok direct route, becoming the first full-service airline in Vietnam to operate this route. This is the airline's sixth international route, continuing to expand the connection between Phu Quoc and key tourism and aviation centers of the region.

The route operates one round-trip flight per day, shortening the journey between the two leading tourist centers in the region to only 1 hour and 20 minutes of direct flight. As one of the largest air gateways in Southeast Asia, Bangkok is expected to open up opportunities for Phu Quoc to access a diverse flow of international tourists.

According to Phu Quoc International Airport, in the first 7 months of 2026, it served more than 4.48 million passenger trips, an increase of more than 1.23 million trips, equivalent to nearly 38% compared to the same period in 2025. The total number of take-offs and landings reached 27,919 flights, an increase of more than 8,500 flights, equivalent to nearly 44%. The above results mark a historic high output of the Airport.

In conditions of strong output growth, operations at the Port are still maintained smoothly. Operating units regularly review service plans in the terminal area, parking yards and access traffic flows, and strengthen coordination with airlines, security control forces and service providers to limit congestion during peak hours.

In parallel with serving passengers, the Port is also expanding investment, serving APEC 2027 High-Level Week and the long-term development needs of Pearl Island. The entire 3,300 m long runway No. 2 has been completed rapidly in just about 8 months. This is the first and most important item to pave the way for a next giant infrastructure complex.

Mr. Nguyen Ba Quan, Director of Phu Quoc International Airport shared: "This is a very meaningful construction item in a very tight time, complex weather conditions and especially we have to both organize construction in conditions and operate.

With a synchronously invested infrastructure system, applying modern technology and service quality according to international standards, the Port will bring a high-class, seamless and intelligent experience, contributing to elevating Phu Quoc's position right from the first gateway.

Next step, the new runway is put into operation 24/24, ensuring continuous and smooth transportation and pick-up of passengers to Phu Quoc, in the context of the increasing number of flights and the approaching peak tourist season at the end of the year.

Runway No. 2 is a key item of the Phu Quoc International Airport Expansion Investment Project serving APEC 2027. This is also a link in the overall infrastructure planned and deployed synchronously in Phu Quoc, including taxiways, aircraft parking, passenger terminal T2, VIP terminal, VIP parking, navigation system, security, rescue, access traffic and auxiliary technical works. Putting runway No. 2 into operation also opens the way to continue upgrading existing runway No. 1 to a length of 3,500 m, gradually forming a system of two runways meeting international standards.
