Singapore Airlines announced that it will deploy Starlink broadband service on some aircraft lines to enhance the aerial connection experience.
According to the plan, this low-altitude Earth orbit satellite Internet service will be gradually applied from the first quarter of 2027 on long-haul Airbus A350-900, A350-900 super long-range and A380 aircraft. The deployment process is expected to be completed by the end of 2029.
Starlink currently has more than 10,000 satellites operating in low orbits, allowing multiple gigabit connections for aircraft through Aero Terminal devices, with support speeds up to 1 Gbps per antenna. This technology is expected to provide faster and more stable connections for passengers.
Passengers on Starlink-equipped flights can use the Internet for many activities such as watching videos, playing games, sharing content on social networks and sending large files.
Customers in Suites, First Class, Business Class, PPS Club members and KrisFlyer members flying in Premium Economy and Economy classes will still be able to use unlimited free Wi-Fi on aircraft with Starlink integration.
Mr. Yeoh Phee Teik, Senior Vice President in charge of customer experience of Singapore Airlines, said that fast and seamless connectivity has become an essential part of the flight journey. He emphasized that the integration of Starlink will upgrade existing Wi-Fi services, helping passengers maintain connectivity, entertainment and work effectively throughout the flight.
