Recreating the Thak Con Festival of Khmer people in Hanoi

More than 100 people from 16 ethnic groups will participate in the August series of activities at the Village of Culture and Tourism of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups, notably recreating the Thak Con Festival of the Khmer people.

From August 1-28, the Village of Culture and Tourism of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups (Dong Mo, Hanoi) organizes a series of activities with the theme "Returning to the Mekong Delta through the culture of Khmer people", contributing to introducing, preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of Khmer people in the South, and creating an experiential space for people and tourists during the summer.

The series of activities aims to celebrate the 81st anniversary of the successful August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2026), National Day September 2nd and the 81st anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Culture sector (August 28, 1945 - August 28, 2026).

The event was attended by more than 100 people from 16 ethnic groups from 11 localities that are regularly operating at the Village of Culture - Tourism of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups. In addition, about 30 artisans and actors Kinh and Khmer from Can Tho city will participate in highlight programs on August 22nd and 23rd.

The highlight of the series of activities is to recreate the Thak Con Festival - National Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Khmer people in Can Tho city, taking place from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on August 23, on the route from Khmer ethnic village to Khmer pagoda, Ethnic Village Area III.

This is a unique peace praying festival of the Khmer people in the South, reflecting traditional agricultural beliefs with wishes for favorable weather, bumper crops and a peaceful life. Through activities, tourists have the opportunity to learn about the spiritual life, beliefs as well as the unique cultural values of the Khmer people.

On August 22nd and 23rd, the exchange program "Returning to the Mekong Delta" will introduce the unique cultural space of the Mekong Delta region through traditional art performances of the Khmer people and Don ca tai tu art.

Visitors can also enjoy the five-tone orchestra, Sa Dam drums, Rom Vong dance, experience pounding flat rice flakes, explore Mekong Delta cuisine with banh xeo, banh cong dishes and learn about Can Tho city tourism through display and promotion activities.

Throughout August, especially on weekends, the Village of Culture - Tourism of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups also organizes many Khmer cultural experience activities such as learning about the architecture of the Nam Tong Khmer pagoda complex, Ro Bam art, Rom Vong, Khmer folk songs, giao lưu with Nam Tong monks, experiencing traditional costumes, handicrafts and typical products of the South.

In addition to the theme of Khmer culture, in August there are also regional art programs such as "Loving Dance", "Village Storytelling", "Dream of the Great Forest" and many activities recreating life, handicrafts, folk songs, folk dances, folk games and cuisine of ethnic groups living in the Village of Culture - Tourism of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups.
