On October 8, the People's Committee of Gia Lai province agreed in principle to let the Department of Construction hire a consulting unit to organize a competition to collect ideas for the General Planning of the Ho - Chu Dang Ya Sea Tourist Area.
The contest is organized in the form of a wide-open competition, with no limit on the number of participating units; the implementation cost is about 1.39 billion VND, from the state budget and other legal sources.
The Lake - Chu Dang Ya is a famous scenic spot, attracting a large number of tourists when coming to the mountain town of Pleiku. The Hoan Kiem Sea is a large lake, surrounded by cool green pine hills.
Chu Dang Ya Fire Mountain was formed millions of years ago. During the wild sunflower season, the mountain becomes brilliant and attracts a large number of visitors to experience.
Although it has great tourism potential and is considered one of the rare natural landscapes, the way tourism is exploited and community tourism is developed is still not commensurate.
Currently, the number of tourists coming to Bien Ho - Chu Dang Ya is mainly during the day; the lack of attractive services makes them have no reason to stay for a long time. This causes difficulties in improving the lives of local people through the development of services, goods and accommodation facilities.
In early October 2025, Gia Lai province requested the demolition of the concrete grassroots houses in the area at the foot of the volcano due to concerns about encroachment on the natural landscape.
The construction and investment of projects in the scenic area has not been carefully researched and lacks consultation with the community and experts. The concrete grass house model is not in accordance with the traditional architecture of the local people, causing public outrage.
Billion-dollar projects from the state budget must be demolished. Therefore, the provincial government is currently planning to expand areas that need to protect scenic spots, while re-planning subdivisions and destinations to implement effective tourism ideas, harmoniously between development and conservation.
