“Hon Do” is the fourth solo exhibition of artist Ngo Duc Hoang, following the success of the Vietnam Art Showcasing exhibition in Kuwait earlier this year.
The exhibition includes works selected from 200 landscape paintings created by the artist from 2021 to 2024. The paintings are in the impressionist, realist and romantic styles, depicting the country's homeland landscape from the city to the Northwest highlands, majestic natural landscapes, moments of spring, autumn and lotus season... All exude a gentle, profound beauty thanks to the multi-layered paint colors, strong, open strokes imbued with Asian visual style.
Do paper is a traditional material typical of Vietnam, which has been successfully expressed by many artists in exploiting themes. With many years of experience working with many materials, artist Ngo Duc Hoang has found a deep passion for Do paper - both mysterious, difficult to conquer but simple and pure.
According to artist Ngo Duc Hoang, Do paper is characterized by the blurring and spreading of colored ink, creating unique effects, bringing depth and richness to each work. The interaction between Do paper and colored ink not only evokes emotions but also opens up creative surprises, surprising even the creator.
“When creating on Do paper, the artist must master the techniques of expression, the use of color, the intensity, lightness, humidity, wetness, and color spread. From there, the artist can master and put his soul into the work. No matter what the subject is, the style, brushwork, effects, and expression will create the soul of the painting,” the artist shared.
Ms. Le Huong Tra, Co-creator of B&C Maison d'Art, said that creating on Do paper is a big challenge for artists because it requires high precision and no editing is allowed. Ngo Duc Hoang's works impressed her with their unique color effects, while also exuding the artist's own mark.
Through the exhibition, artist Ngo Duc Hoang wants to send a message to young Vietnamese artists about the value of Do paper - a type of paper sought after and welcomed by foreign artists.
“More than anyone else, I want Vietnamese people to feel and spread the beauty through the traditional Vietnamese material of Do paper,” he shared.
Painter Ngo Duc Hoang was born in 1974 and graduated from the Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema. Since 1996, he has participated in many art exhibitions at home and abroad, with works displayed in the US, Italy, Korea, Singapore, etc. He is also the first Vietnamese artist to exhibit his paintings in Kuwait. His paintings are in the Kuwait Royal Collection.
The exhibition is open to visitors from now until December 6.
