Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Thai Bao - Vice Chairman of Cai Rang District People's Committee - said that Cai Rang Floating Market is located on Can Tho River, the strategic waterway of Hau River - Xa No Canal, which is very convenient for trading with neighboring provinces and the whole Mekong Delta.
This is an important anchorage for many watercrafts trading goods. There are about 200 - 250 boats and ships trading and exchanging goods; sometimes up to 300 - 400 boats. Of these, about 150 boats are permanently anchored and about 100 boats come from other places.
Cai Rang Floating Market has become a tourism brand of Can Tho City, a national intangible cultural heritage, ranked in the top 10 impressive floating markets in Asia and the world. This is the pride of Can Tho City people in general and Cai Rang district in particular. On average, there are 200 trips per day, sometimes over 400 trips of boats and ships bringing tourists to visit.
According to the Vice Chairman of Cai Rang District People's Committee, this year, the festival is organized on a large scale, with many attractive, innovative and creative activities including: booths for tourism development, trade and services from Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta provinces; Contest for displaying models of boats - ships - beo trees for buying and selling agricultural products; Fruit and cultural cuisine festival; The second "Beauty of Ao Ba Ba in the past and present" contest in Cai Rang district in 2024; Don ca tai tu on the river; watching the Southern Folk Song and Music Contest; composite boat racing and folk games, along with many social security activities.
Especially on this occasion, the Organizing Committee introduces the Tong Phong Festival ritual - a unique traditional festival imbued with long-standing spiritual and cultural values of the people of the Southern river region.
The festival will take place for 3 days from November 30 to December 2, at Cai Rang Floating Market Stop, Cai Rang District, Can Tho City. This is one of the activities responding to the Ho Chi Minh City and Mekong Delta Tourism - Trade Week in Can Tho in 2024.
