Applying Big Data and AI to process tourism databases

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong signed and issued Decision No. 2710/QD-BVHTTDL approving the project "Tourism industry database system".

The Decision takes effect from September 17, 2024.

Accordingly, the tourism database system is built and developed comprehensively and uniformly nationwide, to serve state management of tourism, and at the same time contribute to tourism promotion.

Exploiting, connecting, and synchronizing databases associated with administrative reform, improving state governance capacity based on modern technology, identifying data as the foundation for developing digital government, digital economy, and digital society.

General goal by 2025: develop, maintain and update information and data in the tourism industry database system based on the application of new technology.

Build a tourism industry database system in accordance with relevant standards, regulations and technical solutions in a synchronous manner that is suitable to the capabilities and needs of management and exploitation of shared data of units, ministries, sectors and localities.

Continue to standardize, connect, integrate, and share existing specialized databases to synthesize into a comprehensive tourism industry database.

Building an open, customizable, highly upgradeable tourism database system that meets the needs of connecting, sharing and interacting with data between agencies, ministries, sectors, businesses, people and tourists.

Tourism industry component databases are built, connected and shared nationwide, creating a platform for digital tourism development with information according to the industry's management requirements.

Specific objectives: Complete 100% of the database on travel agencies (including both international and domestic travel agencies); Continue to maintain and upgrade the database on tour guides (100% of tour guide cards are included in the database); Develop and complete the database on tourist accommodation establishments (at least 80% of tourist accommodation establishments are included in the database); Test build a database on tourism resources.

The goal by 2030 is to continue developing a database system that can collect and store additional data from Internet of Things (IoT) technology, applying Big Data technology and artificial intelligence (AI) as the main technologies to process and analyze data to serve analysis, evaluation, management, connection, and data sharing in the tourism industry and related organizations and individuals.

Continue to maintain, upgrade and improve databases in the tourism sector (travel agencies; tourist accommodation establishments; tour guides; tourist areas, tourist attractions; tourism statistics).

Develop and complete databases: Complete the database on tourist accommodation establishments; tourist areas, tourist attractions; tourism promotion; shopping service establishments, food service establishments, sports service establishments (100% of establishments are included in the database).

At the same time, complete the database of entertainment service establishments meeting the 3 standards for serving tourists, health care service establishments meeting the standards for serving tourists, tourism statistics (storing and integrating tourism industry statistical indicators); tourism resources.

The project will be implemented from 2024 to 2030 and divided into two phases. Phase 1 (2024-2025) will prioritize the completion and construction of a number of key tourism sector databases to connect and share nationwide.

Phase 2 (2026-2030), continue to maintain, upgrade, and expand the completed and built component databases in phase 1; complete the remaining component databases to create a comprehensive tourism database system.

To complete the set objectives, the project has proposed a number of key tasks and solutions such as: Building a data organization model; Technology solutions; Investing in building information technology infrastructure; Building policy mechanisms; Training and developing professional human resources; Propagating to raise awareness and responsibility of subjects about the necessity and significance of digitizing tourism industry data.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism assigned the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism as the focal agency to build and manage the tourism industry database system; preside over, coordinate and guide localities and units to implement the project.
