According to the representative of the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province, in the face of the shortage of teachers in recent years, in 2024, the province will be supplemented by the Ministry of Home Affairs with 2,700 teachers. The Provincial People's Council also allows the recruitment of 3,800 contract teachers according to Decree 111 of the Government.
As of August 2024, districts, towns and cities in the area have recruited nearly 4,000 teachers, the number of teachers is about 2,000 people, mainly in mountainous districts and currently there is a shortage of recruitment sources.
According to the People's Committee of Lang Chanh district, in the 2024-2025 school year, the locality is short of 92 teachers compared to the number assigned by the province. In primary schools alone, there is a shortage of 38 teachers. Typically, Yen Thang Primary School is short of 8 teachers; Giao Thien Primary School and Tri Nang Primary School are short of 6 teachers; Tan Phuc Primary School is short of 5 teachers. In secondary schools in the area, there is also a shortage of 22 teachers, mainly in subjects such as: English, Information Technology, Fine Arts, Chemistry and Geography.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nhan - Principal of Yen Khuong Primary School, Lang Chanh District said that according to the quota, the school was assigned 34 positions, but up to now there is still a shortage of teachers in the subjects of Information Technology and English. "Like previous years, to solve the shortage of teachers in these subjects, the district has mobilized teachers from other schools to teach. However, up to this school year, the school still has no teachers to teach" - Principal of Yen Khuong Primary School said.
It is known that due to lack of teachers and inability to arrange teachers, some schools in Lang Chanh district have had to temporarily suspend some subjects. The same situation also occurs in mountainous districts of Thanh Hoa such as: Ba Thuoc, Quan Hoa, Quan Son, Muong Lat...
Solution
Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Ta Hong Luu - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province - said that the shortage of teachers has been happening for many years, and this year (school year 2024 - 2025), the number of teachers added locally has increased significantly, so the shortage has also decreased significantly. However, in some localities (especially in mountainous districts), the shortage still occurs.
To overcome this situation, the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province and the districts have been implementing many solutions such as inter-school, inter-level teaching, and rolling teaching. Along with that, they are reviewing and specifically counting the number of teachers lacking in the districts, from which solutions can be found for each locality.
“A current difficulty is arranging financial resources to pay for teaching extra hours and classes for schools that are lacking. Because the current financial resources are only allocated according to the actual number of people at the school, there is no source to pay for teaching extra hours and classes,” Mr. Luu shared.
According to Mr. Luu, regarding long-term solutions, the department is continuing to propose to the provincial People's Committee and localities to recruit the number of missing teachers; ordering a number of universities to train teachers, thereby helping to increase the source of teachers for localities.
