Majors for which students are exempted from 100% tuition fees
Decree 97 was issued by the Government on December 31, 2023, regulating the tuition fee exemption policy. Majors that are exempted from 100% tuition fees include:
1. Major in Marxism-Leninism
2. Ho Chi Minh's thought
3. Major in Labor
4. Wind
5. Mental
6. Forensic examination
7. Forensic psychiatry
8. Pathology at public medical training facilities according to state orders
In addition, the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment, effective from January 1, 2024, stipulates that the state will support two more majors with full tuition and living expenses during the entire course: infectious diseases and emergency resuscitation.
However, students must achieve academic and training results that meet the requirements for scholarships at training institutions in the State health sector.
The beneficiaries of this policy are also students at intermediate and college levels in fields and professions that are difficult to recruit but in demand according to the list prescribed by the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs. There are a total of 36 fields and fields of art with wood carving techniques, sculpture, Hue opera performance arts, folk songs, cheo, tuong, cai luong, ethnic folk dance, quan ho folk songs, dancers, choreographers, traditional musical instrument performers, Southern amateur music and music, folk opera musicians, Hue traditional musicians...
Other industries include lacquer and mother-of-pearl inlay techniques, ship hull building technology, rubber product manufacturing technology, rubber latex processing, forestry, fisheries, waste treatment, water supply and drainage, road and bridge construction, etc.
Free tuition for all pedagogical majors
According to the latest regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training in Decree 81/2021/ND-CP, the following pedagogical majors are exempt from tuition fees: Preschool Education, Primary Education and pedagogical majors of subjects in public secondary schools, high school education, special education, physical education, and National Defense and Security Education.
In addition, according to Decree No. 116/2020/ND-CP of the Government, students will be supported with two expenses: tuition and living expenses. The support level is 3.63 million VND/month (10 months per academic year). Students outside the exempted majors according to regulations will pay tuition fees at the tuition fee level of the training institution where they study.
However, according to this Decree, Pedagogy students who have enjoyed the policy but do not work in the education sector after 2 years or 2 full years, calculated from the date of the graduation recognition decision, will be responsible for reimbursing tuition and living expenses according to regulations.
Free tuition for Police and Military majors
Police and Military schools also have policies to support 100% of tuition fees for students studying according to State regulations. Students also receive allowances for living expenses and meals. These are units managed by the State, so after graduation, students will be assigned tasks and appointed to work.
However, the above policies only apply to the military system of Universities, Academies, Colleges, and Secondary Schools of the Police and Army.
As for the civil system, the tuition fee varies depending on each school, but students must cover their own accommodation and tuition fees during their studies and proactively apply for jobs after graduation.
70% tuition free major
In addition to the majors with 100% tuition reduction, the State also offers a policy of up to 70% tuition reduction for students studying in some other majors, specifically:
Students studying traditional and special arts in vocational education institutions, public and private universities with training in culture and arts including: Traditional opera musicians, Hue traditional musicians, Southern amateur music, opera actors, folk performing arts, ca tru art, bai choi art, traditional musical instrument performance;...
Students majoring in royal court music, opera, tuong, cai luong, dance, circus; some arduous, toxic, dangerous occupations for vocational education according to the list of arduous, toxic, dangerous occupations prescribed by the Ministry of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs.
