Thai Nguyen is currently the locality with the highest area, productivity, output and income from tea trees in the country.
After merging Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan provinces, the province has nearly 24,000 hectares of tea, of which 23,000 hectares are for products.

The average yield is 180 quintals/ha, the output has been stable for many years, the whole province currently has 207 tea products certified with 3 - 5 stars of OCOP, affirming the position of Thai Nguyen tea.
According to the investigation of Lao Dong Newspaper, the tea industry has not yet fully exploited its potential and value, the production scale is mainly small-scale, broken, farmers account for a large proportion, and the application of science and technology is still limited.
In that context, the province has determined to enhance the value of tea trees, focusing on deep processing, diversifying products and developing community tourism and eco-tourism.

According to the orientation, Thai Nguyen will focus on building a safe, organic tea area that meets VietGAP standards and international organic.
Along with that, it focuses on developing brands and promoting tea products to the international market.
With the new policy, people in the tea area expect more sustainable production, bringing products to demanding markets, while opening up opportunities to link up experiential tourism.
Ms. Nguyen Minh Phuong, a long-time tea producer in Dai Tu district (old) said that if supported with organic certification, tea can be sold at a much higher price than at present.

In addition, cooperatives also expect the policy to become an important boost, creating motivation to improve the quality of tea products, thereby helping to expand domestic and international consumption markets.
In addition to production, Thai Nguyen also aims to link tea development with community tourism and ecology, famous tea areas (Tan Cuong, Cau Da...) will both produce and become experiential destinations.

The tea tourism model helps tourists visit tea trays, experience tea stars, enjoy tea right on the hill, this activity promotes the brand, creating more income for people.
Thai Nguyen province aims to achieve a total value of products collected from tea trees of VND25 trillion by 2030, equivalent to more than 1 billion USD, thereby affirming the stature of Thai Nguyen tea trees.
In the period of 2025 - 2030, Thai Nguyen province will spend more than 500 billion VND to support the development of tea trees and tea products.
People growing sweet soup will be supported with 100% of the cost of purchasing seeds, with a one-time support of 70% of the cost of purchasing fertilizers.
Tea growers will be supported to buy seeds and fertilizers, and when growing according to VietGAP or organic methods with a minimum area of 5 hectares, they will be supported with initial certification funding
In addition, farmers are also supported to apply smart thrift irrigation systems and register for intellectual property protection.
