According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), on August 19, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam and the General Department of Customs of China officially signed 3 important protocols, paving the way for the export of fresh coconuts and durians. frozen and crocodile to China.
The Protocols signed this time include: Protocol on plant inspection and testing and food safety for frozen durian exported from Vietnam to China; Protocol on plant quarantine requirements for fresh coconuts exported from Vietnam to China and Protocol on quarantine and health requirements for farmed crocodiles exported from Vietnam to China.
Among them, frozen durian is considered a priority product with the potential to contribute significantly to our country's agricultural export turnover today. The official opening of the Chinese market for this product is expected to create great opportunities for the Vietnamese durian industry.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in 2023 alone, Vietnam will export about 500,000 tons of durian, reaching a turnover of 2.3 billion USD, of which exports to China account for 90%.
Frozen durian is a new product, with higher added value than fresh durian. It is expected that frozen durian exports can reach an export turnover of 400-500 million USD in 2024, the first year after signing the protocol, and will soon appear in the list of high-priced export agricultural products. worth billions of USD in 2025.
Sharing with Lao Dong reporter, Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen - General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association - affirmed: When frozen durian is exported to China, the export value of fruit and vegetable products can increase. up to 7 billion USD in 2024. Of which, durian products alone can bring in over 3 billion USD.
For the first time, Vietnamese crocodiles are exported to China
Along with durian, two important protocols on exporting fresh coconut and crocodile were also signed.
According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, fresh coconut is also a product with great export potential. The signing of this protocol marks the end of the technical negotiation process between the two sides, opening up opportunities for Vietnamese fresh coconuts to export large quantities to China.
Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen emphasized that Vietnam is one of the largest coconut producing and exporting countries in the world, with a planted area of about 175,000 hectares, concentrated mainly in the Mekong Delta. With the opening of the Chinese market, it is expected that fresh coconut export turnover can increase by 200-300 million USD in 2024 and will grow strongly in the following years.
Regarding crocodile exports, the signing of the protocol will create great opportunities for farmers, promoting the crocodile farming industry to develop strongly in a sustainable manner, ensuring environmental and animal welfare standards. object.
