On December 11, the PWR Thu Duc HTV DJOY Open Pickleball Tournament - WARRIOR Cup officially kicked off. This is a large-scale international tournament co-organized by Pickleball D-Joy and Pickleball World Rankings (PWR) - a world ranking system, with the support of Thu Duc City People's Committee, Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV), DUPR (a ranking system that assesses the level of pickleball players worldwide) at the Pickleball D-Joy court cluster (Saigon Riverside Park, Thu Duc City).
On the opening day, tennis player Quang Duong (Duong Thien Quang, born in 2006, Vietnamese-American) - the men's singles champion at the Las Vegas Pickleball Tournament 2024, currently ranked 4th in the world by the Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) - had an exhibition match to open the tournament and took photos with fans.
In addition, Quang Duong also called for an auction of 2 rackets to raise funds to support victims of Agent Orange, contributing to strongly inspiring the sports fan community. After fierce competition, the two female players participating in the tournament successfully auctioned Quang Duong's 2 rackets at the prices of 250 million VND and 260 million VND, bringing the total amount of donations in the event to 510 million VND.
In the main part of the tournament, the matches were diverse and gathered tennis players from many countries. Notably, Vietnam's representatives were young, talented athletes such as Sophia Huynh Tran Ngoc Nhi, Truong Vinh Hien or seniors such as Ly Hoang Nam, Trinh Linh Giang, Phuc Huynh.
