The tournament will take place from December 3-5 at Hoang Long Tennis Club and Nha Minh Farm Pickleball Club, Ho Chi Minh City.
The tournament gathered more than 100 disabled athletes from 5 units nationwide. Of which, Ho Chi Minh City and Thai Nguyen were the 2 units with the largest number of participating athletes.
Athletes will compete in 5 tennis events (men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, mixed doubles).
Pickleball competition includes 3 events: Men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Hong Son - Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Tennis Federation (VTF) - Head of the tournament organizing committee said: "The number of disabled athletes at the tournament this year is 3 times more than in 2023. This is not only a championship tournament for wheelchair tennis - pickleball clubs but also a cultural and sports festival for people with disabilities.
This year's tournament is organized to recognize and honor the great determination of disabled athletes, while promoting the spirit of community solidarity and supporting disabled athletes with more practical actions."
The 2024 Wheelchair Tennis and Pickleball Club Championship is one of the meaningful activities to celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3) and the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam Tennis Federation.
Through this, the Organizing Committee hopes to raise attention to sports for people with disabilities, contributing to conveying the message of resilience, determination, and fairness in sports.
