On August 7, Nhan Dan Newspaper, the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports, the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation, and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hai Phong city jointly organized a conference to provide information about the tournament.
The 44th National Table Tennis Championship of Nhan Dan Newspaper for the Ca Mau Fertilizer Cup in 2026 is part of the X National Sports Games taking place from August 8 to August 16 at the Sports Gymnasium - Training and Sports Competition Center of Hai Phong city (old Hai Duong Sports Gymnasium). This is a prestigious and traditional tournament, organized under the direction of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee from 1982 to present.
The tournament has nearly 150 athletes from 15 table tennis teams from provinces, cities, and sectors across the country participating.
According to the Regulations of the 10th National Sports Games in 2026, table tennis, each province, city, and sector is assigned a men's team and a women's team to participate in the tournament (each team not exceeding 5 men, 5 women). Athletes participate in competition in seven categories: men's team, women's team, men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles. Team athletes are also entitled to participate in individual competitions and athletes competing in the doubles category must be from the same unit. Seed selection and group draw will be based on the achievements of the 43rd National People's Newspaper Table Tennis Championship and other main tournaments in 2025.
The men's and women's team categories will compete in the Swaythling format (each team consists of 3 athletes competing in 5 singles matches) and are divided into two phases. Phase one will be divided into groups to compete in a round-robin ranking in the group; phase two will be direct elimination matches will be drawn. Men's and women's singles matches of men's and women's teams will compete with 5 winning sets. Men's and women's singles events will compete in direct elimination in 5 winning sets (specifically, semi-finals and finals will compete with 7 winning sets). Men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles categories will compete in direct elimination format in 5 winning sets.
In addition to 7 sets of medals (each set has one first prize, one second prize, two third prizes) a total of 28 prizes awarded according to the regulations of the Organizing Committee of the X National Sports Games, Nhan Dan Newspaper and the accompanying unit, Ca Mau Petroleum Fertilizer Corporation, also awarded two prizes: Promising young male and promising young female athletes awarded to the two best young male and female athletes; and 2 awards for localities that actively build the table tennis competition movement and localities hosting the tournament, in order to encourage young talents and encourage the table tennis movement throughout the country.
The achievements of the tournament are counted in the achievements of the table tennis competition at the 10th National Sports Games in 2026, which is the basis for evaluating for the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports and the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation to select top players for the national team to participate in international tournaments in the coming time.
