On July 4, the Special Zone General Service Center in coordination with the Culture - Society Department and the Phu Quoc Special Zone Youth Union (An Giang) organized the Phu Quoc Special Zone Children's Swimming Tournament 2026. The swimming tournament aims to create a healthy and useful playground during the summer, while encouraging the movement to practice swimming and improve drowning prevention skills for children.
Participating in the tournament are over 100 athletes competing in 2 events: breaststroke and freestyle. Participating students from school teams and swimming clubs in the area are divided into 4 groups, age groups from 7 to 15 years old, competing in 25m and 50m distances.
The competitions took place sôi nổi, creating a useful playground during the summer, helping children train their health, develop their sports talents, and at the same time strengthen exchange, solidarity and confidence in competition.
Em Nguyen Thuy Nga, an athlete participating in the swimming tournament, shared: "Swimming is my passion, today coming to compete I feel very excited and also satisfy my passion. Before that, I spent a lot of time practicing.
Ms. Le Thi Thu Hoai, parent of the athlete participating in the swimming tournament, said: "I have 2 children participating in swimming competitions. The family also hopes that the children will participate in many competitions to satisfy their passion and most importantly, be equipped with swimming skills to prevent drowning. We parents welcome the fact that the locality has many swimming competitions and activities to open swimming classes for children.
The tournament creates a healthy playground, contributing to spreading the swimming learning movement, improving physical fitness and equipping children with safety skills and drowning prevention.
Mr. Le Viet Anh, Secretary of the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone Youth Union, said: "This swimming tournament shows that the swimming movement of the special economic zone is increasingly developing, parents have paid much attention to preventing drowning for children in Phu Quoc. Many families also let their children study and participate in swimming classes in the area, thereby helping to form drowning prevention skills from a young age.
In the end, the Organizing Committee awarded a total of 43 medals, including gold, silver, and bronze, to athletes who achieved excellent results in the competition events.
